gdt 5/31/18 gnats

I wonder if Newk should try pitching to contact more. long track record of being very tough to hit.
no walks after the 1st is mad impressive.

enjoyed reading this GDT the night after. the comments about newk after his 1st being my favorite part

It was the same way in the minors, which is what you probably meant anyway. Part of the reason why I was so bullish. Only thing stopping newk from being an ace is himself. Lots of development to go with him. He's a stud

The Umps have been terrible this year.. so about time one breaks our way.. although, the home ump did a good job over all..

That pitch was cutting in so much, it “may” have hit the corner over the front of the plate and then tailed out. Definitely did not look like a strike, but I bet it looked different from behind the plate.

Both pacing to ~4 war. Newk was the best I have ever seen him. Super efficient and I didn’t see as many non-competitive pitches.

Not to put pressure on them but I think how those two go the rest of the way will determine our fate in making the playoffs. I'm sold on this offense being good enough to win so it's simply if our starters hold up. Folty and Newk have taken big steps so far this year and just need to keep it going.

Still think Soroka and Gohara(when he gets healthy and his velo back) are better than Newcomb. But he has made some small strides. But his ERA is very misleading and will go up.

2018 FIP

Newcomb 3.13
Folty 3.41
Soroka (very small sample--3 starts) 2.78
Gohara (career) 3.07

Those are our four best starting pitchers. If we have a wild card game, you go with the one who has been hot down the stretch, assuming you have the flexibility to choose which one pitches in that game.
