GDT #55, 5/31/14: Braves (Santana) vs. Marlins (Turner), 4:10 EDT

C Joh is scuffling bad now. Ks are at an alarming rate for 2+ weeks now might need a couple days off.

I predict Freeman finally gets a hit against the Fish, Heyward will get his WRC+ over 100 today, and that Laird will once again be huge for us.

As of now Freeman got his hit, Heyward is sitting at 100 exactly and Laird has gotten on base twice.

I'm a fan of TLS>

0 strikeouts and 2 walks in 14 plate appearances so far. That's his game and I don't think that is going to change too much from his minor league numbers. I expect a decrease in walks and an increase in K's but not much. What it's going to boil down to imo is how much good contact he can make at this level.

How do you compute the #s to determine a players WRC+ and what does it mean?

I just look at the players fangraphs page. It updates stats in real time.

And WRC+ is a park adjusted and league adjusted stat for WOBA. Similar to what OPS+ is for OPS. And WOBA is the best stat we have to judge a players overall offensive game (minus steals) imo. And 100 is league average so if your at 100 you are a league average hitter. If your WRC+ is 110 then your 10% better than league average. For example Justin right now is at 167. He's been a monster for us.

He has no power but he seems to hit line drives a lot. We would be lucky if he SLGed 400+ but I think that OBP could be 350-370 which is exactly what this team needs. It would really help if he were a good baserunner as well. Not sure if he is at this point. nice to see him swipe a bag but that isn't even half of a good baserunner.
