GDT 6/10/22: Braves vs Pirates - Bringing The Heat

Reminds me more of Verlander sometimes

My thought was more their progression to the MLB... I remember Scherzer was never high on any lists because he made it to the show so quickly as a nearly ready college starter. There were always rumblings and excitement from each because of their electric velocity but they never had time to rocket up prospect lists even though they ended up being elite prospects... if that makes sense.

The Braves have had an amazing hit rate with young players during this run. It feels especially rare.

This can’t be overstated. The hit rate on pitchers has been just ok, but they have had almost no position players fail to live up to projections. The only miss I can think of is Pache, and he ended up helping them acquire Olson.

If they end up with Wright, Harris and Contreras all becoming cheap impact players, the window likely stays open through the entirety of Acuna’s deal.

If Wright, Contreras, Harris, and Strider are indeed the real deal, this is 90’s Braves level stuff in terms of sheer number of impact players coming up through the system in a short amount of time.

Where’s thethe to wax poetic about Roy Clark and the “old regime”.

It would be nice to see a certain segment of this braves community acknowledge how well they ran the rebuild and relocation. Both of which were highly criticized by a select grouping around here.

It’s crazy how many they’ve hit on. If Soroka can come back then it makes AA’s job a lot easier this offseason.

Don’t forget about Ynoa either. Still believe he can be a capable middle of the rotation starter which opens up option for AA to improve the roster elsewhere.

I’d be very interested in seeing what Anderson can get in the trade market this off-season.

I'm willing to bet you've been on the wrong side of a discussion of "non-falsifiable" beliefs but welcome to the light..

It truly has been amazing. What do you chalk this up to? Luck? Organizational development?

I said that a little while back about Anderson. I like Anderson but if we can get an impact bat for LF that is controllable then I’m all over it. It’s looking like Morton will have his option declined at this rate so I’d go impact and try to sign Musgrove. If we did then Musgrove, Fried, Wright, Soroka, Strider would be just fine. Anderson would bring back another good young hitter for the outfield I’d guess.

Yeah - With all that money coming off the books a TOR starter would make a lot of sense. There are a few options that could materialize as well over the next two years.

If you could flip Anderson for a young OF I think you have to strongly consider it.

I don’t think you get anything crazy for this version of Anderson.

If a team that’s starting pitching starved is willing to trade a controllable young starter, then you can bet that starter isn’t going to get you much back.

Oh how the narrative around here on Swanson has changed due to a hot stretch. You guys are hilarious.

.386

Whoever can tell me what that number is in relation to Swanson will have the answer about why he’s not suddenly the best SS in the game.
