GDT 6/11- This CRAP STOPS NOW. BITCH.

Lol #1 in hard hit% and near last in everything else. What the actual Frick.

Conspiracy time for real.

That is astonishing that they are still hitting the ball this hard. Definitely doesn't match my eye test.

Still, you can beat a ball really hard into the ground. At the end of the day, we are 17 games away from the half way mark, and we have one guy with double digit HR. If you just look at the HR totals of our regulars ex Ozuna, you'd think we're in the middle of April. Clearly, they're not getting lift on the ball, or when they are, it's not combined with sufficient EV.

I've never been a fan of Seitzer. I've alway felt like his offenses have too much of a free-swinging mindset, not enough pitch-recognition ability, not enough of an actual plan or approach that goes beyond "look for a mistake out over the plate". He may be good at fixing swing mechanics, but he doesn't appear to teach his players how to think along with the pitcher during an AB. In fact, it seems like players get worse at it after they come here (purely anecdotal). I have written after the last two playoff exits that the Braves need to make improving this their priority. Their approach worked last season, but they were exploitable. First, this weakness was exploited by the Phillies, now the rest of the league has caught on.

However, firing Seitzer now likely won't make much of a difference. These skills take time and an overall organizational intent to develop. You're not going to rid hitters like Harris or Ozzie of their bad habits overnight. It's gotta become an organizational philosophy, like it was for the early 2000s As, some of the great Red Sox teams, the Astros etc.

The absence of Washington and Young are bigger than most of us think. They did alot more than coach a base or so infield work. Something big ia missing with the team this year and its not Acuna or Strider. There ia no leadership it seems and it starts with Snit. Somebody has to get the ax for what is going on and i’m guessing its gonna be Seitzer. Get Chipper on the phone asap.

Duvall splits - 180 wRC+ vs lhp, -38 wRC+ vs rhp

Why can't the braves realize that literally anyone is a better option vs rhp? If they start a rhp, sir Duvall, and then use him in the biggest spot vs a lhp bc he's better than anyone we have save ozuna.

Trying to figure out why the hell this is happening makes my head hurt. Pitch recognition has been awful, but they also do some things well... but nothing translates. I don't know, man.

I would check the ground ball rate and whiff rate that goes along with the hard hit rate.

This isn't wrong, at all, but the Nationals FEASTED against our pitching on slowly-hit ground balls that went for RBI-singles and doubles. Ozuna had a 109-MPH grounder with the bases loaded for an out... like, there's no parity. It's all famine for Atlanta right now.

I don’t fully trust stat data on grounders. Seems like if it registers off the bat it will be high but have a much larger decline rate versus a fly ball. Logically a ball hit on ground at 100 will travel significantly shorter distance versus one hit in air. Basically my point is hard hit balls that are on grounders or beat down into the ground are not the same as fly balls or line drives. So bowman throwing out hard hit rate like it is something special without any context is lazy reporting imo.

now for some context. The Braves launch angle is good versus league. XBA and Xslg is also good as is their xwoba... so there is some bad luck in the hitting department. But the chase rate, wiff rate, and zone contact rate is still poor and probably a big contributor to the poor performance.

Whats happening is they are storing all the good luck until October and getting all the 110 mph line drive outs out of the way early.

Poor contact + bad luck on balls in play is what this is.

It will either correct itself or it wont.

Come back tomorrow for more in depth analysis.

Interesting take.. how do you feel about the theory that when the Braves score more than the other team they typically win?? I am not sure I can get behind it, but I think you will...

I mean that's a bold statement. Let's try it a few times and see if it holds up.
