GDT: 6/15 Braves vs Rockies

We've had so many hard fought games recently it feels like we should be struggling but we're 10-2 in our last 12.

By the way, if I told you on opening day….. that Fried and Wright would have been on DL for a month, that Strider was having a garbage year, that Soroka has actually been called up —-and then sent back down… that Iglesias has been very less than …. that Minter was the worst pitcher in baseball for six weeks…..That we were relying on Elder, Morton, Dodd, Shuster, and the kid in A ball to start games ….

Would you have believed me if I said with all of that…that we were 17 games over .500?

Ozzie's walk rate lately has been fantastic.

Ozzie in the middle of a patented Ozzie Streak… and as always, these are glorious…. all year we seem to have one or two guys on fire and a few slumpin’ so bad their value gets questioned. Brilliantly, we have ten good bats plus Pillar -so there’s consistently enough hot guys to put up winning offense - and lately we’ve needed it!

Team is loaded. Should coast to a first round bye.

For as maddeningly inconsistent as Ozzie is, it’s incredible how similar his batting lines are every year.

His splits against RHP are getting pretty close to career levels, which is completely acceptable production. Not amazing, but basically average to slightly above average for his position. He's also on pace for the highest bWAR season of his career. He's lagging behind in fWAR because OAA really doesn't like his defense, where as DRS has him as above average this year.

Strider is not having a garbage year. He's had 2 really bad starts in a row. But he was among the league leaders in pitching WAR just 10 days ago.

I only got to watch a 2 innings of AJSS, but there is definitely something to dream on. Some of his Curves (especially 5th inning) were nasty.. then he threw that slider/change thing he throws. Fastball was hittable and he needs to command that better to be successful against good offenses.. But then again, he should be doing this against AA or AAA level teams not superstars.. that said, learning on the job might be good for him if he has the right mentality. Morton could be the best thing for him if Mort is willing to guide him.

Yeah - to be fair, I went way overboard on Strider for exaggerated emphasis- my point stands however - we have been facing some pretty difficult challenges with our pitching ….

But Elder for Cy Young !!

With Max on a throwing program and Wright getting ready to start one, it seems to me like a SP will be a lot less likely position we upgrade at the deadline. I think we should look to add there anyway, but for sure we need to get another impact arm for the pen.
