GDT 6/23/25: Braves @ Mets - Not Everything is Schwelly in the Neighborhood

Fair.

But I think the bigger point for them in this would be to move Correa and the 90+ million left on his deal.

Twins have a decent catcher in Jeffers but he has only 1 year left of control and he doesn't grade especially well on defense. So I don't agree that Murphy doesn't make any sense for them. He isn't the cleanest fit, but I think it's a fit nonetheless. In a vacuum, I think Murphy and Duran probably have similar overall trade value, though the cheaper control favors Duran.

I also think they could get a lot more for Duran by himself, but again the point here is that are gonna have to either eat money or attach a player to Correa in order to move him.

I think value wise, that was a pretty fair trade. I think Correa and Duran are a bit more valuable because I don't think Waldrep adds much of anything. I think Ritchie gets it even closer. But I think the twins have to look at a rebuild and getting Murphy doesn't make sense is more the route I was going.. not the need at catcher.

Ozuna hasn't been a quality bat in a month. .603 OPS since 5/23. .689 OPS dating back to 4/29

Ozuna will snap out of it.

To help this offense we either need upgrades at SS or LF. Or for Ozzie and Harris to start hitting.

Replacing Ozuna with a quality bat just doesn't do it for me in 2025.

For reference, we made a similar trade with the Padres when we traded Kimbrel. We were looking to dump Upton and attached Kimbrel to him in order to facilitate that trade. Of course we all panned that trade at the time, but it still stands a valid baseline.

I don't disagree that Devers wasn't a good fit overall, unless Boston was going to kick in a lot of cash. But I wouldn't let Ozuna stop me from bringing in someone better than him. And I think the hip issue is going to linger the rest of the season since Snit doesn't know how to manage a roster and AA won't put him on the IL

Any trade to upgrade Ozuna is likely a waste of resources though. Our DH would be better. Still running 4 black holes in the lineup.

I completely forgot that Riley is only 9 months removed from a completely broken wrist.
Huh… somehow I completely forgot that too… that has to be playing factor in his power outage. There’s at least some optimism he can eventually get mashing again past this year. Not as much optimism for Harris and Albies at this point.

Albies is less than a year removed from a broken wrist too.
