GDT 6/23: THE WRIGHT STUFF

If this holds, it'll be a disappointment to split in New York when you need to win at least 3 of the 4. Instead, you're in the exact same place on June 24th where you were on the start of June 21st.

Remember when we all thought Wright and Pache were gonna be really good lol
Completely different scenarios and nothing is written for Pache or Waters. Wright had been frighteningly bad. I feel for the kid but mentally, he's not there. Pitching wise either.

I never remember thinking that about Wright. Pache for sure, though.

I'm not a scout and never saw him pitch live when he was at Vanderbilt, so what do I know, but I remember reading his scouting report that talked about him having five usebale pitches. The problem, of course, is that it appears none of those pitches has advanced to be a plus pitch at the major league level. Braves have always been suckers for pitchers with a wider-than-usual array of pitches (think former high round draft picks Jo-Jo Reyes and Jamie Arnold). The only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope is that Charlie Morton was in that same vein as well.

Like most of our guys, they have good stuff but no command or knowledge of how to actually pitch.

It’s like when NBA teams draft guys like Markell Fultz or Ben Simmons when they can’t shoot.

I think it’s a mental block with Wright. They would likely be better off to give him a new start somewhere if the “Wright” deal came along.

It's not impossible to walk away from a top prospect.
Braves were right to give up Folty, who is 1-7 for Texas this year. I honestly think they are only keeping Wright around for trade bait, and the only reason he's in the majors Wednesday night is that it was his turn to pitch. Surely this is his last hurrah for the Braves.

He was the consensus best arm in the draft, so it's not on the Braves for picking him 5th overall.

I remember how most thought he was a absolute steal at even five.

The 2016 Braves really did themselves a disservice from winning 12 of the last 14. They could've had the #1 or #2 pick in the 2017 draft. I would much rather have Royce Lewis, Mackenzie Gore, Hunter Greene, or even Brendan McKay right about now. Greene would've been my pick though.
