GDT: 6/26/23 - Early Ass Game Thread

The most absolutely ridiculous thing he’s done has cut his K rate to 12.5%… at this sample size, you have to think it’s real. I’ve never seen a player who can adjust like he can.

I made mention of that earlier this season. That watching his at bats is something special. He has to be leading the majors in 2 strike hits and/or hard hit %.. He doesn't seem to care if he has 2 strikes on him.. hell, a lot of times 1 of those strikes are from some dumbass ump making a bad call..

how better would Acuna's numbers be with robo umps? I feel like he gets screwed more than anyone on the team.

Acuna on pace to beat out JD Drew for the greatest season in Atlanta Braves history by a position player. Unlikely he'll surpass Aaron for the franchise record of 9.6 bWAR though.

Pretty sure Ozzie leads league in 2-strike hits

In terms of BWar, Drew doesn't have the Atlanta record by position player. Instead it is held by an outfielder in the 1980s at 8.8.

Bet you can't tell me who it was.

Wow, you are correct. Cannot believe Lonnie Smith had an 8.8 WAR season.... In only 134 games no less. To be fair, I was 4 years old in 1989.

Ronnie is basically on that pace though.

Should we all just agree to disqualify Lonnie? I think we have just now in the last couple years gotten to a good place with measuring outfield defense with Statcast. Call me a dinosaur but I’m just going to take Lonnie’s 17.1 defensive value all that serious especially when it was three years removed from being -16.5.

Good offensive season though.

This team just keeps on rolling. I've never seen an offense like this one - locked in from 1 to 9.

Honestly, I don't feel like everyone is "locked in" to their potential. For instance, Riley has the potential to be a lot better than he is hitting right now.

But the point being that even if a few guys are off on one given night, two or three others carry the team that night.

Strange that I have no recollection of Lonnie Smith being awesome any year. I must have been busy that summer.

Holy ****… I can’t believe Lonnie Smith was ever that good. Looking at his stat page, it was an obvious outlier… of course 1990 was the year I started paying attention.
