GDT 6/29/19: Beat the Mutts

37 hits and 30 runs in the Red Sox-NYY game in London. Not sure that's very representative of MLB for English sports fans LOL

I'm fine with Soroka as a 1 or 2, Keuchel as a 3 or 4, and Teheran as a 4 or 5, but that still leaves us needing a 1 or 2 to pair with Soroka and another guy for somewhere in the back half. So we need Folty for sure. I'd really like to see Touki take a step to be that second guy, but for now that looks unlikely to happen this year.

Where does Fried fit?

wait, what? Seriously?

I don't believe in him much at all. I do think he can be damned good if he ever finds a workable fastball of some sort, but an awesome curve plus a good change that doesn't have a FB to work off of isn't a recipe for success as a starter.

Mazza has pitched pretty well for NY. They have to like what they've seen in terms of shoring up their hemhorraging bullpen.

You’re not wrong. Right now Fried’s new slider has allowed him to perform like a #3, but one could argue once the newness of that pitch wears off the effectiveness will wane.

I’ve long advocated for Fried to pick up a sinker due to the low spin rates he gets on the FA likely translating to above average sink on a sinker.

That hammer curve, above average velocity, and prospect of possibly adding an above average sinker is why I’ve always been hesitant to see the Braves trade Fried away.
