GDT 6/7/16 @SD

Sigh. That looked like a homer for Freddie. Hit the fan's glove over the fence then bounced back in. Figures.

Looked like it may have glanced off the end of the fan's glove to me. Otherwise, why would it bounce backwards?

Really exciting to see the team has rallied around the front office and are in it for the #1 pick next year too. The entire organization is unified.

Also I wonder how far off this team is from being statistically the worst team of all time?

pretty far away. we might end up in the running for lowest run total in the 162 game era, but you look at the Cleveland Spiders teams and some of those philly teams of the past and they were really really awful on all fronts. we at least pitch halfway well sometimes.

True. But I guess if you look at the expansion era or the post WW2 era we have to be among the worst. It's a shame fangraphs doesn't do a combined WAR team leaderboard. But just at position players. The worst team since 1945 is the 1979 A's at an atrocious -9.7 WAR. The current 2016 Braves are at -2.5 WAR. So with a little over a 3rd of the season done I don't see us catching that group but 2nd place is the 1977 Braves at -6.6 WAR. So yeah this groups position players are on pace to be the 2nd worst in a span of 70 years.

Hopefully the pitching keeps it up as good as they have been or it could get even uglier.

And since I brought up the topic of total WAR by groups. I think it would appropriate to think back to a happier time in our franchise. Our pitching staff in the late 90's was dominant. That has never been in question. But since 1945 the Braves placed 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th in individual teams from 96-99 with 96 topping the list at 29.5 WAR. Truly remarkable.

It is sad that i preferred to watch the Auburn-OK softball CWS game to the Brave last night. (and holy crap what a game!)
