GDT 6/9/19: Breaking out the brooms

I feel like today’s gonna be a big moment in the playoff race this year. We won a game we were behind late and prolly lost a game they were up late. Instead of finishing the day 3 games back there’s a 2 game swing and we’re 1 back.

They don't quit is legit.

No, I am not a rapper or MC Hammer, I might look like him, but I am not him.

I’d like to see Snitker give Joyce another start tomorrow this time giving Donaldson the day off. Joyce deserves another start after today and Josh could use a day off. With as strong of a bench as we have we should really keep an eye on managing the playing times of Donaldson and Markakis so they remain strong for the stretch.

Rhp... I'd start markakis and Joyce on corners tomorrow

The way Snit operates it will be the regulars on Monday and Tuesday against the Pirates. With Thursday being a day game we'll see some regulars rested Weds and Thurs. The Pirates are throwing 4 righties against us I believe.

I'm surprised Joyce hasn't started more games, especially since Ender got hurt. I was a little surprised when they kept him instead of Duvall, but he's here and he hasn't exactly been chopped liver over his career. Not a world-beater by any stretch, but he can help.

Joyce looks like the Joyce that had an over .800 OPS the two years before this past season. He hit 25 homers the year before last. If you use him just vs righties you should get an .800 OPS or better out of him. He and Duvall/Camargo would make a good platoon IMO.

That said, it took Ender getting injured for Riley to get his shot to carry us as he has. It might take Markakis getting injured for them to give Joyce and co. a real shot.

Joyce doesn’t need a shot. Markakis needs more rest though (the big plan that isn’t happening), and he needs to have his PAs against LHP limited. If those goals are somehow accomplished by getting Joyce more PAs, awesome, but Joyce isn’t a guy you make room for.

Joyce could probably get some time in place of Riley in LF, or in place of JD with Riley moved to 3B. Camargo’s struggles likely opened the door for some other guys to get a few more PAs.

Yeah - Snit seems to have a hard time rotating guys. He seems to have been getting better about giving Neck a break more recently though, so hopefully that trend continues. Markakis has been exactly average, so there's nothing lost by subbing him out once or twice a week.
