GDT: 7/02/14 - Braves vs. Mets

Well I have been in the trade Bethancourt camp if it means anything... I just didn't want to get attacked by those falling in love with him for whatever reason.

There's no way Gattis is sent out to LF with these lingering injuries, which means if he's healthy there's no real reason to have CB because we're not releasing Laird.

Bethancourt has been built up in this organization for 6 years. I think everyone wants him to be our catcher.

I think release is certainly far fetched . I don't think they would trade him, but there have been some very needy teams in terms of C this year.

I don't think Gattis is going anywhere either.

And Upton the Senior has been playing well lately.

Gattis isn't going anywhere but I really do think the organization will consider releasing Laird. I think everyone has to remember that like Teheran, CB has been a darling of the organization. They have patienty waited for 6 years for this moment. I don't think they are going to let a 1/2 season commitment to Gerald Laird ruin this moment for them.

I'd rather have CB go to AAA and get more reps in hitting.Having him be a backup C is dumb while he's still developing. Also will take playing time from Gattis. Kind of the ultimate lose-lose.

Gattis needs to get less starts at catcher. Its like the equivalent of stretching a pitcher out over many years with innings. You can still have Gattis be the first bat off the bench in those games.

I'd give CB at least two starts a week.

This was the biggest reason I was in favor of moving Gattis to left. I think the FO is fixated on Bethancourt at catcher, and it might be the only way to keep Gattis long term...

Second in the league in IP. 3rd in ERA, T-5th in WAR, trailing only Waino, Cueto, Stras & Zimmerman.

Not an ace, though.

He has a better WAR than Greinke and Kershaw?

Thats interesting, regards to an ace, it takes 3-4+ years to get to that track-record.

Kershaw's going to lap the field in that category, but so far he's only thrown 80 innings because of the early injury.

And yes, .5 better than Grienke.

And that's when looking at fangraphs. From baseball ref Julio has a 3.8 WAR which is 10th best in all of baseball and 3rd behind among pitchers behind Wainwright and Tanaka. And I need to look more at bWAR when looking at pitchers. I like FIP as a predictive tool but basing that on what has actually happened isn't the best.

They should just rename the Cy Young the Kershaw award and just give it out to whoever is the runner up to Kershaw. Thats how good he is.
