GDT 7/10/21: Braves @ Fish - Top Offensive Lineup

The Will Smith hate is misguided. He’s 18-20 in save situations with really strong peripherals across the board, including a top 10% xERA, xBA and xWOBA. He’s really good, folks. Maybe he’s not the closer people want but he’s a great reliever.

He’s not bad, but if I could trade him for a good return and free up that cash (being he would likely be the best closer on the market)…I would do it in a heartbeat.

Acuna cries about everything. He is the biggest drama queen I’ve ever seen in baseball.

I expect to hear reports that it’s a sprain.

Wow. Are you basing this on the eye test? Sounds like something an old school scout would say.

He's emotional and intense. As long as he's playing hard I don't mind the drama queen stuff. I don't like it, I prefer the Markakis mode, but I think most fans do.

I see where En is coming from but for me fk that button down Braves Way Bs. Fk the Marlins and Fk Snit. Nothing wrong with livening things up. I love Acuña and if he does what he does for another 10 years fk em all. I love professionalism but I think it's past time to get fun take no crap players.

UPDATE : Complete tear of his ACL. I care less what anyone thinks of him.

Surprised no one is talking about the unnecessary jump he made to catch a ball he could have just ran under. The flair for dramatics can be costly.

Bs Matt. It can happen non contact, jumping, cutting.

It can but this one happened as a direct result of him landing after jumping for a fly ball. Not knocking the kid for trying. But he has been known to try to make plays look harder than they have too. He will be fine. Team will be fine. No one needs to shot their dog over this.

Maybe but it seems like another way to knock the kid. Flair? When the hell is that wrong? That's some dumb ax stuff to me. If he didn't run...would he have been pulled? Should he have just pulled up because athletes worry about their ACL? Hell nah

It was a looping line drive. A slight jump would've seemed safer than stretching out to make a snow cone catch and losing your balance with the wall approaching in an unfamiliar park.

Just a terrible year for the Braves. Somebody make it stop.

He tried to catch a fly ball haha
For all we know it could of looked to him like he had a chance.
I’m not gonna knock a guy for trying to make a play.
First they bash him for “laziness”, now cause he’s trying to make a play when he should of just dogged it and given up a double or triple.
Kid can’t win lol
If you think this team is mediocre now, just wait for the rest of the season without the best thing that’s happened to this franchise in years.
Gonna love watching that AAAA outfield in action.
Talk about a cursed season.
Ouch

You guys are a bit off base on the comment. He tried to make a play. But he also is flashy and dramatic. He jumped when most other RF’d would have just ran through the ball. There was no reason to jump. It sucks. It happens. Players get hurt just running. Others get hurt punching walls.

In fact, I don’t see any benefit in jumping for a ball that over the fence. Simply running through the play will get you there just as quick. Still love the kid. Excited to see him come back next year.

Just can't get there with you. I've seen worse attempts and plays. There's no way he should be vilified as if it isn't enough for the crowd who wants him to just play the game the right way. Damn team needs 9 Acuña's.

He was running full speed and the ball bounced off his glove at the top of his jump. I doubt he was trying be flashy. Seems more likely that he simply misread it or he thought the wall was closer than it was.

If anyone is off base, it's you.

The ball hitting his glove at the top of his jump means nothing. I can jump to meet a ball early. I think he did miss read it. Unfortunate.
