GDT 7/13 vs Reds Injured Outfield Edition

It doesn't matter how good your team is. All you need in a lead off hitter is someone with a great OBP. The Braves have a guy capable of doing that in Jason Heyward. Having good speed and being a great baserunner is overrated in my opinion as a lead off hitter.

So you don't think his approach changes based on where he is in the lineup that causes him to hit much better when he's not in the lead off spot?

No, I think his approach changes after he hits a homer. He gets pull happy.

If his approach changed based on where he was hitting in the lineup the leadoff spot would be better for him because all he's being asked to do was set the table. Fact is those other stats are small sample sizes. I think you are looking for answers and you think you've found it but it's not that simple.

And again Heyward hits 2nd so his OBP skills are just as valuable there as they would be in the leadoff spot. Switching him and Simmons isn't going to all of a sudden fix our offensive problems.

I'm saying to switch Heyward and Simmons have our offense all of a sudden be unstoppable. But I believe it's a start. Simmons getting the most at-bats on the team is dumb. Heyward is one of the Braves best 2 or 3 hitters so him getting the most at-bats would be smart.

You act like Heyward is batting 7th, he's batting 2nd every night he plays.

If it were up to me I'd have Heyward lead off and Chris Johnson batting 2nd but if all you are going to do is flip flop them then I don't see the point. Heyward would get on and then Simmons probably would hit into a DP. I'd rather Upton and Freeman hit behind Heyward than Simmons.
