GDT 7/24/13: Braves (Hudson) @ Mets (Hefner) 7:10 PM

Minor: OK
Teheran: OK but concerns over hitting the wall in his rookie season
Beachy: what can he provide coming back from TJ surgery?
Wood: who knows yet??
Maholm: OMG!
Medlen: Ditto!!

Now, if Medlen and/or Maholm can put their big boy panties on and remember how to pitch, things might be better. But right now, Frank Wren's cell phone usage probably just tripled with the trade deadline coming!

Dude your standards are way too high. Minor has been exceptional, Julio has been great, Medlen has been very solid, and Maholm is great for a 5. Considering the Rays are competing with so many starts to Roberto Hernandez (not the Roberto, different one but just as bad) and the Angels are competing inspite of Joe Blanton we can do much worse than if we have to have Wood, Beachy and Maholm fighting for the 4/5 spot. Espeically if Beachy comes back and pitches like he did pre-TJ cause then it's Wood/Maholm for a 5 and both should be well above average for a 5.

I'm going to be honest. I don't know this guy, and I don't know what he's capable of.

i don't know either, i just know top teams want him and that he should be able to be an impact player immediately

dodgers and cubs aren't pursuing him so that helps

I'd just assume Wren not sign anymore expensive free agents. His track record is extremely meh.

Hope that's not the last we see of Hudson given his age and the injury. Ankle injuries suck as is, but fracturing it, not fun at all. Hopefully a speedy recovery, just hate to see a guy go down like that on a freak play.

So if Beachy doesn't come back Monday, which would have been Hudson's turn in the rotation, who starts? Gilmartin, I guess?

Well it wouldn't be that hard to bring someone up. COuld be Gilmartin, could be someone else. Would be really interesting (though highly unlikely) if Gilmartin gets a callup and pitches well.

No reason for it not to be Beachy. Provided he feels okay tomorrow, he's ready to go, and should go right into the rotation. Unless a trade is made between now and then.
