GDT: 7/25

Good win but the fact remains this lineup is pretty bad. Top 4 is excellent but everyone after that is probably no better than an 8th place hitter (with the DH).

Lt. Dan is at least an average hitter. The others can be as well if platooned properly. Catcher situation is FUBAR.

Kind of impossible to judge this lineup on any given day considering the number of platoons and guys that move around. Riley is just fine as either a 3B or LF against lefties, Duvall is perfectly fine in either corner when they're on the hill as well.

Once Schebler is added, I'm pretty happy with the roster (although I'd have preferred someone like Dietrich as the other LH bench bat with pop since he offers the extra defensive versatility) IF AA MAKES Snitker apply the platoons correctly. Replacing Charlie with Dietrich would have helped with that IMO - once Nick and Charlie are gone, you've removed the "favorites" that he's so quick to use when managing with his heart. I'm guessing they're hoping that Riley's adjustments take and that allows them to turn Camargo into a better version of Culberson/Solarte.

If that happens, I could really like this roster. Find a way to turn Contreras into a switch-hitter when you send him down to get the extra year of control, then let Flow go work with all the young arms in Gwinnett.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed Contreras moving around a bit during the intrasquad games. That may very well be because of the crazy situation we're faced with in 2020, but if he could somehow get to the point where he actually could handle the OF corners and 1B defensively that'd be one *ell of a bonus. Platoon d'Arnaud and Contreras next season, and you'd have 3 Catchers that are strong hitters (from both sides) on the roster when Langeliers and Brown are ready in 2022.

Huh? Make Contreras a switch-hitter?

You’ve been on a roll lately, but you lost me there.

You remember the old prophet - "Keep your feet on the ground, but keep reaching for the stars."

(Brown actually is a LH hitter BTW - keep thinking of a Salty that can play defense if Contreras could switch hit.)

that’s hardly a fact

Pretty close to a fact. Our number 5 hitters have been Matt Adams and Adam Duvall. It's why in spite of him being a piece of work, I was happy when we signed Puig. Slotting him in at 5 made the lineup a good bit better.

Getting our catchers back will help but we need another bat.

I think we need to wait to see if Riley has made any real progress before making any sweeping proclamations about the offense that is largely the same as the 2019 squad with Ozuna in for JD.

AA will probably be shopping for a 3b whenever the trade deadline is though, and that guy probably needs to be a LHH...which the roster has lacked from the beginning.

Losing Markakis hurt worse than many think. The guy is still really solid against RHP. You mentioned the lack of LHH and he would have really helped.

Also, the addition of the DH is something we're not currently set up for well. That spot has been a platoon of Adams and Camargo the first two games (I realize Camargo played third, him playing allowed Ozuna to DH). That's not a great combo compared to what some other teams can run out.
