GDT: 7/31/13 Rockies at Braves

I didn't watch the entire game, but nothing funny out of the Rockies announcers tonight. They were just sad and perplexed that their boy Chatwood could get hammered like that.

So I guess you guys are not fans of patio and AA, lol. Jerry Starke is also Patio according to that thread.

JerryStarke is absolutely Patio. How can you say things have been going bad for months, when your join date is not even a month old? He's also continuing right where Patio left off.

There is no doubt about this. I went over to look at their GDT or I guess their GTF (game twitter feed) and noticed a couple of posts by PattioDaddio. I went back later to see if any last minute trade deadline info had been posted and the original posts now say Jerry Starke. The text of the message hadn't changed just the author. It does look weird having him do this. Wonder what he is thinking? Very strange.........

Pattio is a sorry old vile man who is always drunk. The crap that used to come out of his mouth when we used to have our talk shows was disgusting for a man his age which made it all the more amusing when he was cleaning up the board.

Is it time to extend Minor? Guy is an ace.

I will go on record to say I was completely wrong about him. First half of the season last year, I was calling for his head basically. Thank goodness this organization is way smarter than me.

I never have opinions on guys when they are picked because I don't follow amateur ball at all. But, when you started reading reports that he was in the low 90's with a great change I was stoked. When you have a tall lefty who has that combination, not to mention a pretty good curve/slider then you have an ACE potential. I never wanted him out of the rotation. The same thing with Teheran. I was upset they left him in AAA last year. That is why I want them to stick with Wood. These are legit arms and they just need experience. It would be a BIG TIME dissapointment if they don't let Wood pitch in the starting rotation for the rest of the season.

Not only are you giving him experience for next year but this kid has top end stuff. If you catch lighting in a bottle he could be your number 4 starter in the playoffs if Beachy doesn't rediscover his form this year. And if Beachy does then you have your extra righty in the bullpen for the playoffs between Medlen or Beachy.

Our rotation next year is going to be absolutely filthy.

Minor
Teheran
Medlen
Beachy
Wood

I hope they don't bring in a depth guy that pushes one of thoes out of the rotation. Braves will have Martin/Northcraft/Hale/Schlosser/Gilmartin waiting in AAA if they need a start.

Minor and Teheran both have the makeup of an ace starter. I havent seen enough of Alex Wood yet to see what hes truly capable of, but he does have very good stuff. Beachy has proven to be a TOR starter and I think Medlen will turn it around as well. Youre exactly right in that next seasons rotation will be frigging good.

Board admins that change their screen names are definitely weirdos.

One of these will be traded this off season: Medlin, Beachy or Wood.

They will have at least one veteran in the rotation and for us that will probably be Tim Hudson.

I believe Frank Wren will put two of those three on the available market to see what is offered in return. The question is what position do you try to improve on our MLB roster? The obvious choice would be to find a leadoff hitting second baseman. We may have to eat some of the money owed to Uggla but then again if another team values the pitcher they would be getting who knows.

I get trading either Medlen or Beachy. It doesn't make sense to trade Wood. Teams like the Braves can't trade league minimum guys who have the potential to be #2 starters.

Im a big fan of Medlen but Ive been thinking for a while he will be traded this offseason. I hope not, but if he does, it means we probably get back someone really good in return. Wren isnt just going to give away Kris. I say keep them all, let Huddy walk, and re-sign Mac.

Medlen's trade situation depends on other factors. Do we keep, Mac, Huddy or Maholm? If so keeping Medlen is less likely.

JMO what the Braves should do in the offseason is see if mac stays offer him a 4/44-48 with PT incentives and a vesting options. Minimizes our risk, lets him stick around longer.

Then we have basically a team of (with ballparked salaries for arb guys)

C - Mac 11-12
1B - Freeman 4
2B - Uggla 13.2
3B - Johnson 7
SS - Simmons .5
LF - Justin 14.5
CF - BJ 14.1
RF - Jason 9

Bench
Reed 0.15 (I'm assuming his option isn't picked up and we go with Schafer)
Gattis 0.5
Schafer 0.8
Laird 1.5
Pena 0.7
Terds 0.5

Starting pitching
Medlen 8
Beachy 3
Minor 0.5
Julio 0.5
Wood 0.5

Pen

Kimbrel 6
Walden 1.6
Rest of BP assumign close to min 3.5 (gives us some Vet leeway

If that's what our team looks like we're sitting at basically 97-99 million which potentially is the top range of our budget.

I think there's a very good chance Medlen and Johnson will be moved. Hudson will be kept on a 1 year deal, and we keep our payroll down for midseason flexibility

Unless we don't keep Mac (which if he's willing to sign for a bargain we HAVE to keep him), or we can trade Uggla and not eat most of his salary, Medlen or Johnson is likely gone.

I have a feeling that the Braves will only be on the hook for half of UGgs salary next year and then start LaStella. I didn't think so at first but I believe Mac is coming back now.

What is the timetable on Huddy's recovery?

No way we can justify paying more to Uggla than McCann. McCann will want to be the highest paid position player for the Braves and quite frankly he should be. His position is so physically demanding and yet he continues to consistently produce offensively. If McCann is wearing a tomahawk across his chest next year it will be because the braves are paying him market value and he will be the highest paid position player on the team. Doesn't mean he will have the largest contract in terms of total values versus years but he will be paid the largest annual salary as a position player.

What if Mac doesn't care about being the highest paid player?

That's the thing. Mac may want to be the highest paid player and if he does then let him be for another team. Yadier signed a 5/75 max 6/88

I think If Mac wants to stay here he signs for less than that.

If Mac stays, great.

If he doesnt, we have Laird/Gattis/Bethancourt as our catchers and we spend that money on something else that will improve the team.

Unless his next 2 months are remindful of 2012: Medlen has little trade value especially facing arbitration
Unless Beachy recovers he will have little trade value especially facing arbitration.
Resign Mac then get ready to trade Heyward. Honestly Heyward probably has more value to us than anyone else, espically facing arbitration.
Gattis will not be a backup anything or bench player UNLESS he falls off the face of the earth. The staff will have all off season to give him the coaching he has not had up to this point. Mainly pitch recognition. A strong final 2 months and you want a TOR guy or potential stars in the low minors: Gattis can get them. Something no one else can do.
