GDT 7/31/22: Braves vs Diamondbacks - Sweepy Sunday

I'm confident someone on this board will tell you they always knew Riley had this in him.

The facts of the matter are that the improvements Riley made in his swing decisions and contact rates are nearly unprecedented, and he should be commended for whatever he did to make it happen. We watched him improve in real time, and the underlying measurables kept getting better and better even as the overall production rose and fell. We got to watch a guy improve his true underlying talent dramatically through MLB statcast data, and that is a rare thing to see.

I suspect the rareness of such improvements is why I'd be hesitant to give Riley a massive extension. There is obviously no data to back it up since this type of player development is so rare (though perhaps it happens at the MiLB level more routinely), but I can't help but feel like his rise is a little Dan Uggla-ish, with a similar early fall off the cliff.

give Kevin Seitzer lifetime contract.
