Does the Rusin situation not seem a little strange to anyone else?
I get (sorta) cutting Chacin loose, but we've already got 3 lefties in the pen, Newk is doing his *amndest to become the 4th, and Smith shouldn't be that far away from joining the team. It would seem to make more sense to add another RHP who MIGHT be able to give you multiple innings since Rusin can't be sent back to Gwinnett if/when Smith is added. If they were seriously considering Davidson for the third LHP pen slot, why not just add him? At least you wouldn't lose him for sending him back down.
If we can't somehow regularly get 5 innings out of ONE of Newk/Touki, or Wright, AA is probably going to have to find a way to carry as many multi-inning guys in the pen as possible and figure out some sort of legitimate piggyback system.
#3 Slot - Newk for 3 innings, Tomlin for 3 innings
#4 Slot - Touki for 3 innings, Wilson for 3 innings
#5 slot - Wright for 3 innings, Davidson/Weigel/De La Cruz for 3 innings
I realize Snitker used Jackson for 2 innings the other night, but I can't imagine they actually want to do that very often. As things stand now, the only one inning guy in the pen that can be sent down with being lost is Minter. If you send him down to bring up one of the piggyback options, the only lefty that's really shown he can be trusted is Matzek for the time being.
