GDT 7-6 Ian on the hump

We are so distraught it is no longer solid strategy to shift vs LHH who pull the ball on the ground…because that one time that one guy dribbled one the other way for a hit.

Strictly for the numbers crowd...

You don't make trades unless they're truly for "difference-makers". If that's truly the case (by the numbers), there's absolutely no reason for AA to make a deal - this team just doesn't have what it takes.

What's so scary is that someone texted me a Twitter link saying the Braves are in on Story. It's not on the MLBTR site - just Twitter.

Please explain how ANY deal and ensuing $240+ million deal for him makes ANY sense on any level.

Yeah, why would you play a guy who pulls 80% of his grounders to the right side of the infield?

Makes no sense!!

Keep playing video games - there's a reason why numbers guys are numbers guys and not playing baseball for a living, sorry.

They hadn't shifted on him ALL NIGHT and got him out every time - why in the *ell do you change when it counts? How often is a punch-and-Judy hitter going to pull ANYTHING (on the ground or not) when he's facing 96+ MPH fastballs???

Where's that metric?

So are you a numbers guy, or are you playing baseball for a living?

“Punch and Judy hitters” pull the ball all the time too. Take a quick look at Enders spray charts as an easy example. Wrong on that.

Frazier had 2 hits, so no, they didn’t get him out ALL NIGHT. Wrong on that.

I’ll check how often they shifted on him when the statcast data comes out tomorrow. We will see if you’re wrong about that too.

Folks get all upset about a loss and want to cry about a weakly hit grounder beating the shift when all data tells us conclusively shifts work. They work so well folks want to ban them.

The Braves did not lose this game because Adam Frazier got a 77 mph grounder through the weak side of the shift. The Braves lost because they aren’t very good, and sometimes mediocre teams lose to bad teams when they don’t hit.

You're simply wrong about the reason most folks want to do away with shifts (at least to the extreme level that they're being used). It's not because they work, it's because they're a huge part of the reason the game has become boring as *ell.
