GDT 8/10/20 Twit’s new righty lineup?

Because of the forty-man issues, I think that's probably true. But given the shortness of the season, the hype around Anderson, the fact that "delaying the clock" of young pitchers shouldn't really be a consideration, and the reality that the Braves need to fill two rotation spots, I'd like to see Anderson get the tryout in one slot, along with Wilson–Davidson–Weigel (probably in that order) in the other.

Anderson has to go on the 40-man over the winter, but they'd have to move someone off to accommodate that and I don't know who that would be at the moment. There are a few candidates, but the team might want a few other things to play out before bringing up Anderson. Like you, I think he warrants an audition in a crazed situation like the one we've go going right now.

I had given up any hope he was going to develop into a three, but I'm surprised the Braves don't see him as an acceptable five under the circumstances.

I don't care a whole lot about the outcome of this season, so I guess I'm happy to get a look at other guys.

heh?
what about him is an acceptable 5? he isn't an acceptable 8.
he simply isn't a starting pitcher. under the circumstances, you may as well try someone else. because Newcomb clearly isn't it.
i've been rooting for him, hoping he'd make the Simmons trade look slightly less terrible. unfortunately he hasn't progressed at all.

Maybe I'm grading on a curve, but I don't really see how the Braves have obviously better options.

I have tried to be patient with Newk but I am personally done. He isn’t missing because he is nibbling too much. He is missing because he can’t repeat mechanics or is flawed in the head. I remember his first presser after his very first spring start several years ago and he was cocky and dismissive to the reporters about control issues. He said he knew what was going on and how to fix it. It was a flag to me but I tried to keep my posi card and keep routing. I can’t anymore. He needs to be another teams hope for I care.

no one said they have “obviously” better options.
but it’s obvious he can’t start. i’m legit surprised you still can’t admit that. what else do you need to see?
they need to try someone, something else. that’s crystal clear.

the whole premise of my comment was that I am surprised the Braves don't see him as a viable starter this year when they have no obviously better options.

I'm done now.

Wasn't Newk decent in the pen for us last year which is why they even gave him a chance to capture one of the starter spots?

the options aren’t elite or useless...

Could be, but when you already have 3 better options (Smith/Minter/Matzek) currently in the pen, options like Davidson, Pfeifer, and Muller who may or may not ever get a chance to start that all throw more strikes, and have our history of turning scrap-heap reclamation projects into gold, what's the use?

You obviously spin it the way AA's spinning it and say you're going to revamp his delivery, but if ANYBODY else shows an interest in doing that you trade him.

...because he's proven he isn't?
other guys have not shown us, over and over again, that they aren't starters. Newcomb has. that's why you try out someone who still has hope. Newcomb has had his chances, and he's been terrible. may as well see if someone is better than terrible.

Newcomb has had twice the chances of anyone, and with little success as a starter to boot. It’s because of games like the Dodgers game that they keep hoping he will click. He’s fools gold tho...you will NEVER be able to trust him.
