GDT 8-10: Marlins at Braves; Game 5; No Drake

Collins had a really good night. Drake should be in every game from here on but he won't. Ozuna doesn't have a future here but that pick plus the pool money with it is huge.

Profar is up to a 114 RC in 169 at bats with only a .257 OBP. The only real difference between this year and last year for him is BABIP. That is encouraging I guess. I dont know that his bat will be worth his defense though even if he is an above average hitter.

I assume you mean a .257 BABIP and not OBP?

I know it's cherry picking a bit, but given he only had 4 games to start the year before his 80 game suspension, I don't really count those first 4 games of the season. Instead, I look at his data from 7/02 until now. In those 153 PAs he has a .797 OPS and a 125 wRC+. He's doing that with a 88.5 EV and a .206 ISO, which are both a good bit better than his career averages. His ISO is actually a good bit higher than last season, when he was on roids.

So I think we can reasonably expect numbers much better than his career line, but probably not what he was last season. Which would be fine if he were around average defensively. Unfortunately, he's quite clearly a DH going forward.

Yeah. I just don’t get sitting drake versus a RHP. If you want to rest a you g 20 something that has fewer AB that any average starter. Then at least pick a tough lefty.

But hey. The team has to play Ozuna because he is so valuable to the team right now.

And it irrationally pisses me more and more that Ozuna was so outrageously missed used this year. Playing him through a freaking hip tear was so strikes that someone should take a fall for it.

I honestly think the collective stupidity of this team has cost at least 15 games.

And before you guys start arguing. Think about all the horrible lineup constructions. The Sale complete game that landed him on the IL. The Ozuna situation. The BP usage. Just so much freaking stupid that it hurts to think about.

Wait… you think someone is going to disagree that Ozuna was misused this year?

I think you may have stumbled onto the one thing that we all agree with, 100%.

no.. I know we all know it.. what I am saying that this team could be 10-15 games better if run by non idiots. I know AA doesn't make day to day decision (like leaving Sale in for meaningless innings).. but he can set directives that Twit must follow.. he can send optimal lineup constructions.. he could have easily IL'd Ozuna while Drake and Murph were hitting well. could have sent directive to not play Acuna every game, or even DH'd him while Ozuna recovered..

Then add in twit just not understanding BP leverage, no one telling Iggy not to throw a slider, how to use a bench (even a shit one like the Braves) properly, on and on and on...

The Braves are also 14-28 in 1-run games. We get that to the expected .500 and they are 58-60 and 4 games out of the wildcard.

It looks like the Brave are getting the good version of pre-roids Profar this year like the one who showed up in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

If the worst everyday player on the roster is a guy who posts a .750 OPS and poor defense in LF, the team will be just fine. The problem is, he's like the 6th best player on the roster once Ozuna leaves, and one of the players better than him will not be playing their most valuable position (catcher).
