GDT 8/12/23: Braves (Winans) @ Mets (Reyes) 1:10 PM EST

I mean I know I have preached this. But it won’t happen until the end of the season. Not sure if that is too late by then.

The Braves have needed someone like Lopez who can play every position well so they can start resting guys at least at DH. It’s baffling to me it hasn’t happened yet. AA deserves that blame as much as Snit. He certainly knows better.

I mean the entire defensive front has been revamped with a more aggressive coordinator who’s a D-line guru

The line is full of complimentary pieces. They don't have a franchise pass rusher. It's been a huge hole for years but they keep drafting skill position players.

Winans has been fun in a crazy small sample size. He looked good for the most part in his first start as well. 1.59 ERA/1.85 FIP/xFIP 3.01/2.77 xERA

He's already been worth 0.5 fWAR... his BABIP against suggests is even high at .321

Obviously, he's a command and control guy and I'm sure the league will figure him out, but it would be so much fun to turn a Mets castoff into an impact player.

They dont have a TJ Watt/Bosa/Garrett/Aaron Donald level guy up front but having multiple guys who can get to the QB is not a bad thing. You need more than just your starters, gotta rotate guys in and late in the game. Falcons have built a nice defensive rotation. Hindsight you obviously take Parsons over Pitts but not even sure the Cowboys saw him being this good. Bijan over Jalen Carter will be the big talking point 3 years from now.

Never said anything about a franchise pash rusher. Those are rare anyways. But Kayden Ellis really broke out last year and he credits Nielsen. Ellis is a ridiculously underrated signing. Not to mention that now he has help, Grady Jarrett will be even more of a beast. The secondary is going to be much better so that will also help. I think Ebiketie is also going to have a big second year. Ridder gonna shut some people up... he won't be a star but he doesn't need to be.

Unfair to have those 2 on one team

Is Olson on pace to have the best full offensive season from a Braves 1B in history?

He is. Freeman in 2016 and Galarraga in 98 both had 45 offenisve runs above average. Olson is on pace for around 52.

Olson is also on pace to set team records in HR and RBI
