GDT 8/13/19: Going Mike Vick on the Mutts

I don't recall who it was that took some mild heat last week for saying Acuna could go down as a top ten all-time hitter, but there really is a non-zero chance.

Yeah it’s possible. I honestly don’t like to throw something like that around this early. He’s VERY good though. For now though Trout is the guy for that conversation.

METS ARE DEAD!!!!

Their 2020 season is over too!!

In all seriousness, this Mets team seems to be a lot closer to contention than I initially thought earlier this season. They seem to have a good, relatively young core to build around if they want to go all in the next couple of years. I really don’t think most of their core is young enough to try and rebuild around for competing down the road. We all know they have the rotation. But, like the Phillies, I’m not sure they are going to be able to have the depth required to be a great team over 162.

Oh, Trout is already there. And like you, I don't generally like it this early because so much can happen to derail promise, but damn, he is special. Rare ability.

yup...rebuild doesn't make sense for the Metropolitans...that Cano trade tho...

Bigger ? is they have to pay most of their rotation SOON.

Stroman FA in 1.5 years, Thor in 2.5 years, Matz in 2.5 years, Wheeler FA to be. But they do have some good positional players in JD Davis, Conforto, Alonso, McNeil, Rosario, among others.

I actually read the opposite in an article on FanGraphs. Their core really isn't that young. In fact, their window is likely closing in the next 2 years. Essentially, they only have Wheeler this year, Syndegaard for 2 more, Stroman for 1 more, DeGrom is already over 30, McNeil is actually already 27, will be 28 next year. Alonso will be 25 next year. Rosario isn't looking like he will be a star.

Their farm system is currently in the lower half of the league as well. So realistically speaking, this year and the next couple could be it.

He hasnt been great tonight, but i still wouldnt be against signing Wheeler this winter.
