GDT 8/13/22 Game 2: Braves @ Fish - Double or Nothing

Baseball is a wild game. Don’t ever think you’re done for the division when it’s not even September yet.

It's nice that we've handled our business this week against Boston and Miami, but we have to elevate our performance against good teams, and right now, we're a few games below .500 against those teams. Winning the games against Carrasco and Walker are a must, and we have to find a way to win one of the other two. If we can't take three of four from them, we're not winning the division. Honestly, I'll believe it when I see it.

The schedule the Mets have in September is super soft. We have to win 3 of 4 in the next series to have even a small shot at it.

Yes, even if we win five of the remaining seven against them, we still have to gain another three games on them in the other 40 while playing a more difficult schedule.

Do we even tell him to steal or is he just doing it?

He is just doing it. You can see he does what he wants, when he wants. He runs through Wash's stop signs, trys to steal at stupid times in the game/inning. The couple of times Snit benched him everyone got butthurt and it turned into a "let Acuna be Acuna' ****fest. He is either the most aggressive player in baseball, or just has zero baseball IQ.

Personally, I like his aggressiveness and personality, but he needs to make better decisions, not only for his health, but for the team. I am not one to try and 'hamstring' guys, but after all the things we have seen from him, he needs to dial it down just a tad.

Their next 10 are kinda tough, at Braves for 4, at Phils for 4, and 2 at Yankee Stadium but DeGrom/Scherzer are going in the Yankee series. Outside of a 3-game set against the Dodgers at home, their schedule sets up very favorable to end the season. We'd basically have to sweep that final series in Atlanta to have a SMALL shot. Provided we're not like 5+ or more back still.

Our schedule is a lot more difficult, seems like a real uphill battle to catch them.

Guys we've got the next coming of Alex Rodriguez & Barry Bonds batting 8th / 9th in the order. We've got this.

At the end of the day, the Braves are going to win 93-97 games, which is all you can ask for (especially in a season when your best player is recovering from a major knee injury).

The Mets built a great team and have been a little lucky. Kudos to them.

That's where I'm at. Winning the division absolutely comes with an advantage in the playoffs. But look at the Giants and Dodgers last year as two teams that had the playoffs locked up but pushed themselves at the end and their teams suffered from it in the playoffs. If the Braves win mid 90's but only manage to get a WC then so be it. This is a better team than last years squad.
