Thats not true. He has been 91-93 in some of his starts sporadically. He hasn't touched 91 yet today from what I have seen.

why do the royals need so many backup infielders?

Polanco is the best bet but he can't play SS which is an issue.

I'm imagining in a playoff series, we'd go with two backup infielders, two backup outfielders, Laird and Gattis as the bench.

Perhaps, but I don't see Miami doing us any favors. Polanco would be a better option if he could play short too.

Sounds a lot like Janish. Since they ought to have two BU IF, I would rather have a guy who doesn't play SS, but has a better bat. Let Janish back-up SS.

That's why Polanco might be a fit if he's available.
