GDT: 8/19 Braves Debut Their New aPache

This was a break. Nats been swinging it, and braves are without 3 starters against rhp. Oh, and we had Wright on the mound. Glad it was called

Would really suck for Pache if Neck is back tomorrow and Pache gets sent back down without making his debut.

And we are basing this on what? Some sample of 20 games?

Everyone realizes 18 fly balls in total have been hit to Ender this season, right?

His sprint speed has gone front 27.9, to 26.8, to 26 this year. That’s pretty concerning for his defense and offense

I’m not arguing the sample size isn’t small. I’m just really going by the statcast data. Not sure how long that takes to stabilize.

Well here’s a hint...

Every single Brave has a lower 2020 sprint speed than they did in 2019.

So...yeah. Guess they are all toast? Or is it possible enough sprint data hasn’t been captured yet, and several non-max sprints are being counted as max effort sprints?

I’m guessing nobody needs an explanation about how meaningless 20 games is for any defensive stat.

Hey man it’s cool. Not trying to argue with you just trying to put the pieces of information we have together. I generally always agree with what you say and I’m very pro-Ender as a player. I hope he’s the same player he has been. Just with the statcast numbers and him being negative in OAA combined with how it seems the Braves feel about him it just seems like there’s cause for concern.

There’s always cause for concern when a player looks as bad as Ender looked early. So when you’re concerned, you look for injury. You look for stats that suggest skill declines.

Problem is, it’s been like 3 weeks, and those stats that reveal skill declines aren’t meaningful yet. So the worst thing management can do is jump to conclusions based on a microscopic sample when there are literally years of other data that tell us exactly what Ender is.

Ender could very well be toast. Players become ex-players all the time. But nobody can make that determination from available 2020 data, and the 2019 data when he was healthy suggests he was just fine as recently as 12 months ago.
