GDT 8/19 game 2 vs. Pirates (Harrangutang

Stella!'s power will get a bump once he starts hitting those alleys on a regular basis.

Yeah. Only issue I have is TLS defense is probably worse than the author lets on.

I remember that Tom Kelly just couldn't stand Todd Walker's second base defense even when he was hitting up a storm for the Twins. When asked, Kelly would grumble about a bunch of things that seemed inconsequential to the average fan (lining up cut-offs, minor positioning issues). Could be the same thing with La Stella. Just conjecture on my part.

TLS has been better then advertised defensively and I just don't understand the platoon. I really like Gosselin as a utility guy but he should not be taking consistent at bats from TLS. Nobody has ever said he'll be star but he's the type of hitter this team has been missing.

Having said that....if we're not going to play TLS everyday I think Peraza should get the call when he's off the DL

I am prepared for the likely conflagration that will erupt if Peraza replaces La Stella. It won't be this season, but I could see a battle in spring training.

I would rather see us trade Simmons in a monster deal and give SS to Peraza. We need offense and Simmons might never provide very much of that.

Can't replace elite defense though with Simmons.

Peraza may not even be half the defender Simmons is (not many people are).

No way. Just have the most incredible defensive middle infield in baseball. Looking forward to Simmons/Peraza up the middle for years to come.

I think that is the case. Went to one of the games vs the Nats and was amazed how often LaStella was out of position. Relays, back ups etc.

Ian Thomas got sent down and hasn't come back after not covering 1B on a tapper to the right side -- remember?

Those are things players have to have down at the A ball level.

Not to mention he got in JHey's way on a short pop up that night. Iknow Iknow - RFers call of 2Bmen. But Jason let him have it and LaStella took his eyes (heard footsteps methinks) off the ball and just missed it. That was when, I think, the wheels of Gosselin started turning.

For my money Gosselin is more player than LaStella who was more player than Uggla
