Maybe AA wanted him and couldn't over the almost 4 million owed. They probably claimed Adams instead going cheaper and of course Cardinals got awarded that claim based on worse record.

The Braves couldn't afford to risk having Murphy's entire $3M salary dumped on them, so they had to hope he cleared waivers so they could work out a trade that included money from the Nats. It's the only possible explanation as to why he made it to the Cubs.

It's a shame the Braves couldn't afford to absorb $3M to bolster a play off caliber team.

3M for a month of a bench player may not be the best investment. Albies plays over Murphy. I wouldn't play Murphy at 3b over Camargo. If you play Camargo at SS, then you weaken the entire left side. I'd love to have Murphy, but that money could probably be used more effectively. Now I admit I don't a more effective option off the top of my head
