GDT 8/21/19: Getting it Right

I have an off-the-wall question:

If a ball is ruled fair and a fan interferes, security comes down to escort the fan out of the game. The opposing team then challenges and the ruling is overturned and it’s declared a foul ball. Does the fan get to stay in the game?

Fan will be escorted no matter
More nets hung bc said fan had to leave
Everyone blames trump

#Braves' Teheran has allowed one or fewer earned runs in 15 starts this season, second only to Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu (16) among traditional (non-opener) MLB starting pitchers.

It's been a crazy year for Teheran. Unless something happens, it's almost like the Braves have to pick up the option. I don't know if they could find a comparable guy for less than $12 MM.

I agree 50. JT has made us picking up the option a no brainer almost. He eats innings and the price isn’t that bad.

might be able to sign Teheran for less than 12m.

Trevor Cahill is an interesting comp. He had a 2 WAR season in 2018 after several seasons of essentially zero war. Teheran will probably end up a little over 2 WAR this year and has a better track and health record. Cahill got a 1 year deal at 9M. So Julion will likely do a bit better on a one-year deal. With a multi-year deal the AAV would drop. But with guys like Anderson coming through the pipeline I think we will not be interested in a multi-year deal for a pitcher of this caliber.

Julion's 12M option might be a little high. But the attraction lies in the fact that it is a one-year deal.

Got this from the comments section from a recent article about Julio on fangraphs. But since 1945 Julio has the 8th best FIP-ERA for pitchers with at least 1000 innings. I think it's pretty clear that FIP and fWAR don't truly represent the value that Julio brings to the team when he can consistently out perform his peripherals. 12 million is a no-brainer.

Looking way ahead, i think the top 4 next year is Julio, Folty, Soroka, Max, and 5th could be a number of options. FA, i dont think we re-sign Keuchel. I think we use most of our FA dollars on the offense. Catcher, 3rd base, and OF most important needs.

That's how I see it. One spot in the rotation will be up for grabs during spring training. A couple of the pitchers who lose out in the competition will probably go to the major league pen.

Due to Anderson's age he would be someone you would want to wait a bit before starting his clock to gain an extra year. But I do see him coming up next year and sticking. Braves have plenty of guys for the 5th spot until that time comes.

(and don't look up Cahill's stats this year).
Julio is way less of a risk than most guys you'll get a comparable price IMO.

I think he would have to be lights out to make the team out of spring training

Do clocks matter that much with pitchers? At some point they pop. Id rather get andersons innings next year on a team where it matters.
