I also understand d'Arnaud may be sore last night, but (stat heads may correct me on this as I'm not sure how well he frames or blocks), but it no longer needs to be Flowers 1 game, Travis 1 game like it was with McCann and Suzuki the last 3 years. d'Arnaud is the best starting catcher the team has had in years.
1-4 ain't going to cut it, sorry. Figure out how to hit kid!!!
As for d'Arnaud, complaining about the way Snitker's handling the Catchers is a little stupid. Flow's hitting .350/.500/1.100 right now - and has been killing RHPs. If d'Arnaud's even the slightest bit sore, you sit him and don't have him crouching all day - he's still available to pinch-hit for Adams if they bring a lefty in.
Well first of all it hasn't been 1 and 1. Tyler has started 7 games and Travis has started 14.
For pitch framing it's pretty obvious. The last 3 years Flowers is the best in the game. Travis won't hurt you out there like some catchers so that's a plus too. Flowers of course has one of the worst pop times among catchers while Travis is a little ahead of the curve. Luckily running isn't something most teams do anymore.
Offensively both are doing extremely well right now. 161 WRC+ for Travis and 199 for Flowers. Obviously those will come down as the season goes along and over a full season I'd expect both to be slightly below league average offensively like they have been the last few years.
The under appreciation that Flowers gets around here is unreal sometimes.
The problem is certainly not Flowers starting at catcher. I'm a big fan of the Late Bloomer, regardless; but, with Erlin on the mound, framing is probably even a bit more paramount. And, like you said, it looks like Flowers is going to keep up his weird reverse-splits thing from last year.
The problem is the combination of Ozuna's moribund defense and Adams' necrotic bat. It'd be one thing to have Ozuna play LF to ensure d'Arnaud sees more PAs; it's another to think the loss of defense is worth 3-5 weak Matt Adams appearances.
But he'll probably golf a three-run homer today, after all this crowing, and buy himself another couple weeks on the roster.
If Pache isn’t going to play why burn him this year?
Makes no sense.
I thought the whole reason we brought him up is Neck was out and he would play until he got back.
I don’t get it big Dan
The only thing “wrong” with the lineup is MAdams in place of Pache, which forces Ozuna to the OF. That’s a legit gripe, but perhaps something else is going on with Pache. I get folks love the new shiny thing, but we may want to remember Pache is more Swanson-prospect than he is Acuna-prospect, especially right now.
Complaining about Flowers getting a start is pretty dumb, even if that ball off TDA’s knee isn’t still barking at him (it was pretty obvious after seeing that last night he wouldn’t be playing today). A huge reason the Braves catchers have been so good the last few years is due to the timeshare Snit uses behind the plate.
It's one night folks - they haven't benched him for the year or sent him down. He's sitting against a RHP with some pretty nasty stuff, and is available if you need his defense or speed later in the game. Ender went to LF every time last night and is better-equipped to face a guy like Wheeler if he's going to do that than Pache is trying to cheat a bit to catch up to Wheeler's velocity. Adams and Ozuna have no trouble catching up with it.
Jeez.
