GDT 8/26/24: Bravest @ Twins - Time to crush some Twinkies

Merrifield and Laurano having an 800+ OPS since coming to Atlanta has really help stabilize the lineup.

While Laureano's BABIP is high, his average EV and hard hit% are also at career highs, which suggest what is happening isn't totally luck.

Honestly it doesn't really matter at this point if it's luck or not.

These guys were released for a reason. Any type of production we get that's more than warm body status is a blessing.

agreed, these guys are not 'core' guys.. so predictive stats don't really matter except not to be fooled into signing these guys for more than they are worth.. But what has happened has happened and the Braves benefiting from it is all that matters.

Laureano is just mashing lefties and that's 40% of his at bats. He is on a bit of a hot streak for him. Even bad players have hot streaks. See Arcia, Orlando. Ride it while you can. I wouldn't mind keeping him for next year seeing as how we are going to need to hide Soler defensively and Acuna could use some rest coming back from injury.

Laureano will have to be cut because he will be due a raise on his current $5M salary. No way the Braves are going to pay a bench OF close to $10M when they will likely already have Kelenic on the bench.

Too bad. He's good OF. Surely they won't keep Soler especially if they keep Ozuna. Soler can not play any defensive position. He's horrible in the OF.

I'm not sure they have a choice. Soler's contract is likely going to be hard to trade away for exactly the reason you want to trade it away.

Keeping Ozuna is a guarantee.

So Soler will only be a bench player? Possibly pinch hitting from time to time?

Unless something crazy happens I suspect Soler will bein LF most of the year. Kelenic will be your 4th OF.

If we have to put up with Solers defense I want to have an elite defender in LF to go with him. Someone like Dalton Varsho of Toronto. Then we could also carry 5 OF and really hide Soler. On the road we could bat Varsho 9th and get 2-3 early innings of great defense. Then pinch hit Soler the first time he comes up to bat. If we get a lead sub in that 5th OF for Soler. I think zlaureano would be fine as that 5th OF if we can get a LH defensive specialist for LF. Then if any starter goes down they can platoon fulltime.
