GDT 8/28/23: Braves @ Rockies - Albies Returns

Acuna just made a good point that doesn’t get talked about around here as much as it used to ….
BUT - Ozzie plays every game, Acuna having the best season by any Brave in history.
Ozzie goes on 10 day DL, Acuna goes into slump mode.
Ozzie back in tonight - Acuna has 4 hit game, Dinger, SB, etc
Just sayin’…..

While it didn't seem possible a month ago. Arraez only has a 15 point advantage over Acuna and 10 point advantage over Freeman now.

I'd place money on Acuna or Freeman ending up higher by seasons end.

Hard to keep that average up when you don't hit the ball hard.

One more thing on the incident in the outfield. I’m sure all of us have seen the video of when Hank hit 715 and the two college aged kids got on the field and trotted beside him for a moment. I also had a flashback to when a fan ran on the field toward John Rocker at Dodger Stadium and mooned him.

My lasting memory of Rocker will be him sprinting in from the pen roided up (and probably coked out) during a fight with the Phillies and trying to figure out who to hit first.

Around the 3:30 mark. Also, RIP Pat Corrales and Gerald Williams and Pete and Don.

Yeah, that was comical with Rocker. He definitely wanted to hit someone, but had a hard time deciding who.

Also, I forgot Ron Gant was with a Phillies for a time.

Damn that Braves coaching staff was juiced

Pretty much. His K% increased while his BABIP has normalized. BA has plumeted. He's basically been Juan Pierre in the 2nd half so far.

Wait a second....

Are you trying to tell me that his .398 BABIP wasn't sustainable, and he was due for major regression? Who could have possibly seen that coming?

I didnt watch a ton of tony Gwynn, but wasn't he a soft hitter for the most part? I could be misremembering

A little easier to punch the ball the other way when the pitcher is throwing 88 and your average corner outfielder looks like Ryan Klesko

Lmao. Wrong. There were great pitchers when Gwynn played. And no...he wasn't a punch and judy hitter. He could hit the ball anyway you like. He chose not to try to hit the ball out of the park.

Okay… thanks for the clarification that great pitchers existed in the 90’s. As a Braves fan, I had no idea. But that’s not the point I was trying to make. Do you agree that pitchers throw harder now than they did in 1994?
