GDT: 8-3-13 Braves at Phillies (BJ Activated, Jason Sits)

I guess it's just unheard of to use a veteran catcher to get him through a game. Probably doesn't matter though. He's throwing batting practice.

I realize it's early yet, but my goodness Brandon Beachy is just throwing batting practice. They might have to make a decision before long.

I still would have liked Beachy to pitch out of the pen like Medlen did. I know injuries dictated we try it, but that is why we should have picked up something at the trade deadline.

This is exactly what I was talking about when everyone was jumping on me for suggesting that we needed another starter.

I still don't see a need and there was nobody out there worth getting for the price. I'm going to give someone with the track record of Beachy more than 2 starts to figure it out.

Luckily we've got a big lead, and if he doesn't figure it out when Maholm gets back, then we can make a decision. Just means the other guys will have to keep pitching well in the meantime.

Of course you do. You just don't do it while also having Wood pitch and no one behind him if another starter goes down.

Putting all this stock into a guy coming off TJ surgery was a bad idea. Even more so with Hudson being done for the season. We have two quality starters with Medlen on the cusp. The rotation needed an upgrade.

We are just going to have to disagree on Wood. I think he is ready. He just needs his shot.

The playoffs are going to be rough.

Minor
Medlen (only other one you can trust on short rest)
Teheran (will be pushing high innings)
Maholm/Beachy/Wood
