GDT: 8/3 Whalen Debuts tonight

Whalen looks like a less effective Williams perez

But wait a second, I called him a fungible arm and was brow beaten and told he was a legitimate prospect. I was assured he "just knew how to pitch and get outs" despite underwhelming stuff.

How in the world could the prospect gurus around here be wrong?

Chip said Kemp had first game jitters. Is there such a thing as second game jitters? First series jitters? First month jitters? First year with a new team jitters?

I didn't think Whalen was ready, plus I was never sold on him (at least as a starter). Maybe an okay 5th starter some day. Just I'd rather kept him down and sold high on his minor league success in a trade. Now that he's pitched and not well in MLB his value is going to be less. But maybe not by much depending on how long he stays up.

The Braves have made it a habit of calling up pitchers without giving them a chance to have a run of success in AAA. Once in a while you get an exception who can make the jump from AA to the majors and not miss a beat. But for most players some experience in AAA tends to be useful.

Yeah, I've been extremely unimpressed with our handling of our young pitchers this season from a front office standpoint for this reason.

Was Blair rushed?

I don't think he was rushed too much the first time he came up, but sending him down and then bringing him right back up before he had fixed anything was complete idiocy. That was basically a recipe for crushing a young pitchers confidence.

Tough crowd. Give the guy a couple of games. He has a case of the nerves. His pitches are all over the place. If he's doing this in start "3"...then maybe you are right. This kid had double knee surgery last year and shouldn't have even started the year. He worked his butt off to get here...give him more than an inning. I don't think anyone thought he was going to be an ace anyway lol.

My thoughts exactly.

No more chances... I can see a pitcher in his 1st inning and tell you how his career will go

I've been poking fun at Kemp's slow start with the Braves, but he looks to have excellent plate discipline. I have no doubt he can get back to his old walk rates.

I can see that his stuff is exactly as advertised and why he was described as back end starter or middle relief pitcher. Nothing I have seen makes me think the reports I read are wrong, and it has very little to do with the 4 on the scoreboard.

Yea, I wasn't going by the results at all in saying what I have been saying about him all along. Though before the knee surgery I didn't even think he'd make it at all. But he has been better since getting healthy and now looks to have that potential.

Agree with this.
