GDT 8/4/22: Braves @ Mutts - Start the series off Wright

I’ll ask again: why are we using our worst relievers in a two run game?

Besides the fact that it's the first game of a five-game series with a doubleheader coming up Saturday, what the hell does it even matter? Our strikeout-happy lineup isn't touching Diaz with a 10-foot pole.

Because every game counts, we’re playing a division rival so it counts double, our pen is fully rested, and this game is close right now while there’s no guarantee the future games will require use of your best arms.

Anything else?

I like the strategy of treating a couple regular season games like postseason games. You don’t want Diaz going for a 2 inning save for the first time in the post season. Now he will have some experience when he’s asked to do it in October.

There's no guarantee, but if we're going to have any shot at winning them, it's extremely likely. Because the Mets have good starting pitching lined up, and our offense struggles against good starting pitching. Anything else?
