Duvall appears to be the same low-OBP hitter (30% Ks, single digit BB rate) that runs into enough HRs to be useful exactly as he's always been, currently riding a .500 BABIP and 38.5% HR/FB rate to a decidedly unsustainable 1.300 OPS over 38 PAs. His 2018 was a bit flukey due to a .238 BABIP, but we've seen this story play out already this year with a AAA call up.

While the Braves probably have enough arms to cobble together an acceptable rotation, they only have 1.5 healthy and competent MLB OFers currently on the roster. I think we are going to wish AA had acquired another one, especially if Markakis can't come back all the way from the wrist injury in time for the post season.

I do wonder if Pache is going to figure into the September/October OF at some point...

I'm more open to it.

I think Corey Dickerson went for bonus pool money essentially, which I guess the Braves had none of. Wronghanded for you, but I actually would have preferred the stronger platoon side and would have lived with one of the Braves' many all or nothing righties on the short side.

My main interest with a possible Pache callup this season, is the fact that if you brought him up at the roster deadline I don’t believe teams would have enough time to adjust and find his weakness before he helped us in a big way and you know his defense will be a plus.
I kinda feel the same way about Anderson.
We’ve saw first hand with Frenchy back in the day and recently with Dansby,Ozzie and this year with Riley that it takes about a month for people to find a weakness to exploit, why not take advantage of that fact with Pache?
Of course he could struggle big time like most prospects but it may be worth a shot since we don’t have any other better options.
I wish we would wait till next year for he and Anderson but if they think it can help them win a few games in the playoffs then why not?

My preference was for a RHH 4th OFer who could serve as a decent option in an everyday role, like Pence or Puig. The idea being that if/when Markakis is healthy the Braves need a RHH to platoon with Ender/Markakis, and with Joyce on the roster already there would be little to no room for another LHH OFer on the bench.

The Braves have needed a RHH OFer since the season started, as evidenced by the looks Camargo, Riley, and Duvall have gotten in that role.

Wait- I thought you were convinced Inciarte was back to his old 3 WAR self? Is he the .5 ?

How will it affect their clock?

Yes. He is borderline unplayable vs LHP...so maybe he's .75 of an OFer?

Point being the Braves have Acuna and 2 guys in Markakis/Ender who should only face RHP. Even if Duvall succeeds in a platoon role vs LHP, the Braves still need 1 more RHH OFer.

I feel like Pache could at least match Enders numbers vs lefties

FWIW--

Ronald, Ozzie, Ender, Camargo, Charlei and Riley have never faced Odorizzi.

Vs Odorizzi

Josh has 25 ABs with a .240 Avg
Duvall 5 Abs, .400 Avg
Flowers 2 ABs, .500 Avg
McCann 31 ABs, .419 Avg
Freddie 3 ABs, .333 Avg

The Mets are up 2-0 on the Marlins. They’re playing great ball. With a win, they’d be a game over .500.
