GDT 8/7/22: Braves @ Mutts - Series Finale

The Mets are a good team, playing at home, with Scherzer and deGrom going well, and got a bunch of lucky hits at opportune moments.

The Braves are a good team, playing on the road, with a few guys not stepping up, and never seemed to get that big hit to fall at the right time.

Such things happen in a small sample of 5 games. We should understand that considering it happened in the Braves favor all last October.

I'm just glad you all made it through the night without hurting yourselves or getting thrown in jail.

I guess that's what I'm not getting from the critics and all the barking about the Mets' luck. Everything went the Braves' way post deadline last season. A lot of that was skill and guys getting hot, but there was plenty of luck bestowed upon us by the baseball gods.

And it was about ****ing time. None of us should apologize for it.

Mets fans are already declaring themselves a dynasty and that the Braves will be playing for 2nd for as long as Wilpon runs the team.

How are the Mets on the verge of a dynasty? Their entire starting rotation is old and/or on the verge of free agency. Their minor league system according to Kiley McDaniel today is middle of the pack aside from Alvarez. Do they have any talent age 25 or under making meaningful contributions? Essentially they will have to hope Cohen continues to be the biggest spender in the league, and even then there is no guarantee.

deGrom isn’t gonna settle for less than the Mets gave Scherzer and no other team will give it to him so there will be a standoff there.

You're exactly correct. Any contract for DeGrom will have to top Scherzer. Alonso will also only be two years from free agency. Interested to see how they treat him.

I look at last year as direct payback for 1996. The Yankees were half a game away from being down 3-0. Even with that comeback, there is no way the Yankees should have won that series. Last year, with Acuna down, there is no way the Braves should have been in the playoffs much less won a championship.

I agree. I can see a path for them to be a consistent juggernaut from here on out if they get their farm and player development up to speed by the time their current core gets old or hits FA. But, they don’t have much time before that happens.

But, a dynasty is a stretch. It’s not like the Braves are just going to stop being a well run organization with great players.

What'd he say?

That the Mets had some weird and lucky hits, that that's nice and it's August. We'll see what happens in October. And he was bitching about the strike zone. Meanwhile, Dansby and Riley wore it and acknowledged the team had a bad series and is better than they showed.

Honestly, and I love the guy and what he's brought to the team, if you can't get out of the third inning and can't put guys away with better pitches, it's best to shut your mouth, say they were the better team this weekend, and move on.

It’s kind of funny reading strider’s comments because it’s almosr word for word stuff that gets posted on here.

i guess strider made the mistake of saying things fans like us were thinking the entire time.

Agree with all but the last sentence. My wife, my dog, my television, and a local jail cell all wish the Braves had won a couple of more games in the series.
