GDT: 810 Marlinsl @ Braves (Wood)

A loss? I forgot about those. Oh well, we'll get em next time. :)

We should really be quite happy about our situation. Just wasn't our night.

Speaking of which, is there any update on Paul maholm? Its been well over 15 days since his injury. I wondered if he's actually fine to pitch and is just been shoved to the side and won't be activated until September to give some of our young guys a rest.

Reading between the lines, that's what's up. He was trying to spin his curveball in his latest bullpen and "wasn't going to come back until he's 100%." And I'm guessing he'll be 100% on September 1.

I don't think the Braves want to take Wood out of the rotation just yet. Wait till we have a big lead in September and then call off the dogs on Julio. But Wood will pitch. He deserves a chance.

Rotation is going to be even better next year as should the whole team IMO.

If Beachy, Wood, Medlen, Minor, Teheran continue to pitch like this, it may unfortunately spell the end of Tim Hudson pitching for the good guys, unless he does a Roger Clemens come back in mid-season type of deal when there's expected to be some injured starters.

Or unless we use Beachy, Wood, Medlen as trade bait (Medlen and Beachy probably wouldn't vouch much because of service years and TJ surgery). We could package CJ and Wood maybe Walden for some new bullpen blood, Uggla replacement, or a long term 3B.

Alex Wood is going to a very good starter as long as he stays healthy, IMO. He's already doing well for someone that was fast tracked to the Majors. I wouldn't rule him out of our playoff starting rotation.

I think they will add him for depth and ease him along. Huddy even mentioned that even if the Braves don't sign him he isn't retiring. I think he sees the writing on the wall.

If the Braves dont' get something of good value for Medlen in the offseason then they are better off just hanging onto him and hope he gets on a roll. There is just no room for Huddy next year. Braves just hit the absolute jackpot with young pitching. So amazing and the factory of arms isn't going to stop. No studs for another couple of years but for now we will have plenty of options to make spot starts if one of our young guys goes down with a small injury.

Can't rule it out for sure. He is competing for that spot with Beachy and Medlen. Should be a lot of fun down the stretch.

I don't see Alex Wood effecting Hudson's return. I expect it is more likely to effect Medlen being in the rotation. Medlen will either be traded or to the bullpen, IMO. The Braves like having one veteran in the rotation to help the young guns. Huddy has already been cited by multiple pitchers including relievers (most recently Carpenter) as helping them improve. Alex Wood even cited him this past Spring Training.

I'd say it's more likely Medlen than Beachy. Beachy only issue is rust, which obviously was less an issue last game. When he gets off the rust I expect we'll see more the pitcher we did before his Tommy John. He was the ERA leader in the NL before he went down. He has more pitches than Medlen so more to work with too. Medlen has to have top notch control/location because he hasn't had three pitches going as much this year. He has a great change-up of course but the rest of his pitches are pretty average. So he must depend on great location and that great change-up. This is why I still see him more of a reliever long term. If not he'll need to have three pitches going more consistently than he has thus far.

I just don't see how or why the Braves are carrying so many damn outfielders

Jason Heyward

Justin Upton

BJ Upton

Todd Cunningham

Jordan Schafer

Joey Terdoslavich

How many ****ing outfielders do you need? Having only 1 backup infielder on the roster that hits worse than Rafael Belliard.

Because Laird will be activated today!

Cunningham will go down!

This is off topic, but this is the first time I've been to the new site and not been on my iPhone....super nice layout, very nice!!! With that said, you can't win em all...I missed the game tonight, just saw the box but losing 1-0 after a very long winning streak is far from disappointing

Man, Eovaldi throws hard.

Marlins could be pesky in the future depending on the haul they get for Stanton.

I still say a 6 man rotation in September. Beachys coming back from TJ. Teheran could use some extra rest for the playoffs and this is woods first full season. It will never happen but it makes perfect sense to me.
