GDT 9/11/24: Braves @ Nationals - A New Brave Appears

These announcers can eat a dick. You think we give a crap about a shut out last night while our playoff chances are going to hell vs this garbage team? Shut. The. F. Up

Hey goof troop in the tv booth, it doesn't matter who anyone throws vs the braves? I think even max fried could come through

I can't see this team making the playoffs. The Mets are a hungry team that wants it. Braves are coasting assuming they get in automatically.

My only hope at this point is that they stay in the race long enough so that they don't get the bright idea to shut Sale down early or skip starts to save him for next year.

He's holding a tenuous lead in the MLB strikeout race, in which I have a financial stake.

I have a bad feeling about Sale. His drop in velocity the last 2 starts suggests he may be marching towards a major injury, and the WC race means he won't be given extra rest.

With the way this season has gone, it would surprise me if it didn’t happen.

Probably just tired. For most the season, I think he's gotten extra rest until lastly, and there's this...

2021 IP - 42.2

2022 IP - 5.2

2023 IP - 102.2

2024 IP - 166.2

So he's pitched more this season than previous 3 combined. Tired is the safe bet imo

it doesn't matter.. Sale is not going to skip a start and we all know twit won't make him.. they aren't even making Ozzie rehab so they don't have to play the likes of lucy williams, littleigo, MarryField

Needless to say, it's been a very frustrating season and the plethora of injuries have really f*cked things up. The lack of depth has shown up and the Braves have been scouring the waiver wire to fill things in. As I said a couple of weeks back, if they hold on to both Alvarez and Baldwin and give them more development time in AAA, part of the depth problem is taken care of, but it would be nice to have a qualified major league level back-up IF on the team next season instead of what we've been watching this year. Of course, it's always the chicken/egg thing with Snitker as in does he not know how to use his bench and rotate guys through to get a day off now and then or is the quality of the bench so bad that he (and this probably extends to the front office) doesn't trust those guys enough to put them in the game. It didn't matter last year when the Braves were crushing everyone but Snitker didn't rotate guys through then either and let them chase somewhat meaningless personal-bests.

It's probably an overstatement and I'm certainly not going to say that the Braves would have done better with a set of scrappy overachievers, but the team Anthopoulos has built isn't really built with players who can grind it out. They are obviously talented players, but they are bashers and when they don't bash, the hill gets pretty steep. Losing Acuna really sapped the energy out of the team, but as I said above, when you have this many injuries, it's bound to take the starch out of a team regardless. It's just that Acuna in addition to his talent has a swagger that the Braves obviously miss greatly. He's one of the dumbest players in the major leagues, but generational talent can cover up a lack of baseball intelligence.

You make good points. And this season certainly has been hard to watch, when considering the injuries and under performance across the board. I do wonder about the future of the team with the roster as constructed, and will be interesting to see how it plays out.

But also have to consider, imagine where a team like the Mets would be if Lindor, Alonso and Nimmo missed significant time due to injury. The fact that the Braves are still contending for a playoff spot despite all that has gone wrong (and obviously some good has happened as well) feels like a minor miracle.
