GDT 9/13 vs Mets (Weber v. Niese) The Suck it, NFL Edition

I've never seen any manager manage a bullpen worse than Fredi does. Further, so far Hector Olivera doesn't look any better than Adonis Garcia. We better hope it's just rust and that he can somehow find a way to stay off the DL. If not we basically gave away Wood and Peraza for almost nothing.

I haven't been paying attention lately, but what's up with Paco Rodriguez? I thought he'd pitch for the Braves before the end of the year. Are they saving him for 2016?

I guess it's only fair that we let the Mets sweep 4 since the Nats got to.

The good news is Philly won again, we need to let Philly sweep here next as they're the one team I want to lose to at this point. In other words, I would rather lose every game to Philly and win some games vs other teams if it means getting the top pick in the draft.

The best thing about Hector is that he's cheap (salary wise). And that fits in with the Braves overall theme (being cheap).

He won't pitch for us till next Spring Training, but I think he and some others coming injury will pitch in winter ball.

Cheap is nice if you're good but so far he's not been anything to talk about other than a few games. Plus that is just his offense, I am not sold on his defense at third long term either. I am afraid Olivera will end up at best a slightly better version of Garcia who cannot stay off the DL enough.

Hopefully it's rust. But I feel he has to be a 3 WAR player at minimum to be worth what we gave up. And even then it may fall short as that's essentially what Wood is. But I guess the logic there is Olivera is worth more to the Braves since we should be able to fill Wood's shoes either then acquring a 3 WAR 3B.

A lot of the good pitcher have QO's attached to them and while our first rounder is protected. Apparently we'll lose the Competitive Balance Round A pick in next year’s draft (No. 35 overall) that came over from Miami if we sign one of them (or anyone else) with a QO attached.

My guess is that they won't sign anyone with a QO attached because why trade for that pick only to give it up? I am hoping they target and sign someone like Scott Kazmir. He won't have a QO attached since he was traded from the A's to Houston Astros this season. But he is a Houston native and the Astros have already stated their plans to try bringing him back. So I won't be surprised if they're successful as it makes sense he'd want to stay there if given a fair deal.

Do us all a favor. Before making posts like this in the future, take a deep breath and repeat this mantra...

"Ommmm...Small sample size .... ommmm ... small sample size .... ommmm ... small sample size."

And before you know it, the urge to make posts like this will just ... disappear!

Good luck.

Rico, I wasn't posting in frustration unlike you apparently. Further, there are plenty of us here that have such concerns or similar concerns about Hector Olivera.

My concerns are his health and age...not that he doesn't have the ability of Adonis Garcia.

I never said that he "doesn't have the ability of Adonis Garcia" for the record. I have said in the past after the trade that I expect Olivera to do better than Garcia if he can stay healthy and on the field. Also keep in mind Garcia hasn't been bad, thus far he's given us a .772 OPS overall (and that's pretty good even with his low OBP so far). Further, I was probably the biggest supporter of signing Olivera back before Dodgers did, at least till the partial UCL tear news hit and the price went up. I watched Olivera in the WBC years ago and liked him but he was both younger and healthy back then.

That said, I still hope for our sake he turns into a star in MLB but I am not expecting it.

It is just glimmers, but I take some encouragement from what we've seen lately from Castro, Garcia, Swisher, Bourn, Olive, Teheran, Baby Harang and Wisler. None of those guys are likely to be foundational in 2016 or beyond, but they could be part of a team that hangs around .500 next year or even a little better with some luck and some astute moves this off-season.

I think that Miller, Julio, Wisler, Baby Harang + whatever is actually a reasonable group for next season, in the context of incremental improvement, and if backstopped by a reasonable bullpen. Viz, Shae, Paco, Withrow, Winkler is a pretty good start towards that end, as referenced in the bullpen thread.
