GDT 9/15/20 Braves @ Orioles WTF Is Acuña Doing?

Does Yona deserve another start before it is over.

Interesting question. If he's going to be on the playoff roster, then probably yes just to keep him sharp. If not, I don't see why he would unless it would be to make sure the playoff rotation sets up. I'm not going to put too much stock into last night's performance. The Orioles were fatigued from beating the tar out of us on Monday night. But Ynoa did look sharp. His velocity appeared to be up a few ticks last night and that surely helped.

I am not seeing him on the roster if Folty and Hamels are healthy. Maybe Luke continues to face plants or is hurt. But even then I am not sure they add him. That said I would imagine he gets another crack to help line up the playoff rotation.

I did not watch last night but did see some replays but yeah 98 on the black makes him very interesting. The slider looked good. I have no idea about a 3rd pitch.

Ynoa could be a decent piggy back option for a short start in the playoffs. Something Luke Jackson doesn't really offer. His control is on more than Touki but he's in that same vein where when its off, its really off. Definitely has strong K stuff though.

Ynoa is not a starter for us he’s an opener. I’d say if we’re gonna keep him on the postseason roster go ahead and transition him back to the bullpen now.

I think that's a given. The Braves have seemed to use the opener concept but expand it to 3 or 4 innings unlike most of the teams that employ that strategy. I don't know if: (1) the Braves would use an opener in the playoffs, and (2) Ynoa would be deemed sufficiently experienced to log playoff innings. He's been a bit all over the place with his control, but when he has pitched well, he's pitched very well. Like Matt, I don't see him on the playoff roster.

Freeman at 2.8 fWAR with Tatis Jr at 2.9

Freeman with a 190 WRC+

Keep it going Freddie!

Moving Forward:
An MVP season from Freeman happens when he manages to pair a .370 BABIP with a ~20% HR/FB rate for a full season to go along with this (hopefully) new 16% walk rate. That's essentially his 6.1 WAR 2016 plus a bunch more walks that would have resulted in an OPS of 1.000+ and 7+ WAR.

Guess what his BABIP, HR/FB, and BB rates are for 2020?

.372, 20.0%, and 16.4%.

This is MVP Freeman.
