GDT 9/19- Ian Anderson on the hump

As exciting as Smoltz was to watch make pitch, he's equally unexciting to hear make comment.

So after 3 walks he Ks a guy, gets a weak grounder, and then a broken bat pop up.

It took 30+ pitches, but hopefully he's dialed in now and can go 5.

Could've been worse with walking three straight to start the inning and a seeing-eye two run RBI. Smoltz called it a success if he could limit the damage to two runs and, obviously, that's exactly what he did.

Anderson got squeezed pretty bad but he didn't help himself with those walks. Lots of non-competitive pitches. Hopefully he figured it out.

While I agree with you and fairly or not, Smoltz gets criticized by fans of other teams (Yankees and gNats come immediately to mind) as being too much of a Braves homer. I'm sure that he's (at least subconsciously) trying to avoid that criticism.
