GDT 9-20: Drake at DH

Hard to know what the team has in Alvarez Jr. The bat seems like it could be useful with swing changes that get him to elevate more, especially since he has solid plate disciple and bat control; but there’s still probably not enough offense there to be a regular at 3B, even with the very good defense he’s shown at the hot corner. Certainly not enough offense to start over a healthy Riley. And it’s hard to carry a bench bat that only backs up 3B (and, I suppose, 2B).

Maybe some other team with a dearth of 3B options would value the glove as starter-worthy if the bat is at least viable? Again, difficult to see what to do with him going forward.

Imo he is a quality bench player but he needs more position versatility. He isnt good enough at SS/2B to be more than an emergency option. He needs to atleast learn LF. I think his average/OBP will improve with time. He lacks the power to be a starter but if he can just put up a good OBP and play good defense thats good enough to fill in when needed. Riley can play corner outfield so we should consider using him there if someone gets hurt so Nacho can get playing time. He was only 22 this year.

Can Snit please get Lara in the game today? His family traveled to Detroit to see his debut.

It's too late to be in win now mode. I wish Snit was this urgent back in June and July when the team truly spiraled.

Snit must think he's managing for his job.
That's another thing. We're roughly 176 hours from the season ending, and we still have no idea what's going on in regards to his job. Either announce his retirement before this final homestand today or tomorrow, so the fans can "celebrate" him for 2021, or go ahead and announce a 1-year extension to get year 50 in. Here's hoping for retirement!

I would bet pretty hard on him being back next season with it being announced as his last

The hope for Nacho is that he can become a Sal Frelick type of player. Provide great defense at multiple spots and carry an above average OBP. He's never going to be a strong everyday player though.

If that were the plan, it likely would have already been announced, instead of dancing around the topic every time it's brought up. Snit has already said he wants to be back. AA has been non-committal.

Would’ve been so easy to do it Friday night with a big lead. But we got Hunter Stratton in the ninth inning for some reason.
