GDT 9/25/24: Braves vs Mets - Sale for the Triple Crown

I wonder if KC was able to fly in last night or is having to travel today -

I think their game ended early enough to get in town in time. Atlanta didn't start getting the winds until after midnight.

my biggest concerns about tonight is flooding and power along with field conditions. but it looks like the crew will have all day to work on it. I haven't watched any news about how hard Atlanta and its surrounding cities were impacted. I think I saw something early this morning about a tv guy getting this woman out of her car that was under water past the windows or something.. so it seems some low areas at least are flooded.

Carp, I think I figured it out.. you are not that bad at math like I originally thought.. you are just bad at english.. See I used the word technically which is not the same as literally.

Take the Braves for instance.. they are 1 back of Zona. LITERALLY 1 game back.. So lets say both teams win out. Because the Braves have 2 extra games they would end the season LITERALLY tied with the same record... but here is where the word TECHNICALLY comes in. Since the Braves hold the tie breaker they LITERALLY win the WC berth with LITERALLY a zero game lead, but TECHNICALLY they have a 1 game lead.. or if you want to get cute they TECHNICALLY have a half game lead because they LITERALLY won the division.

hope that helps..

I am still trying to grasp the logic behind not throwing Sale today.. I keep playing scenarios out and it all leads to him pitching on Sunday or in the Double header. There is a small chance he doesn't have to pitch until the WC round, but a much much larger chance that he does and that means the Braves could be eliminated from the playoffs (if they even make it in) before Sale pitches one game. where if he goes tonight he is guaranteed at least one start in the WC round (again if they make it)

I don't think you understand how math or the English language actually works. None of that word garbage you typed out is remotely close to a coherent thought.

KC and Minny have the same amount of games remaining. IF both teams win out, KC will have won 3 more games than Minny, not technically 2. That is entirely how a 3 game lead works. If you want to say that KC has to maintain a 1 game lead over Minny to get into the playoffs (also not true, as they hold the tie breaker over Detroit), then that is fine. But again, that is not "technically a 2 game lead."

so what happens if KC and Minny finish with the exact same record? who wins the WC.. Leave Detroit out of this.. it is confusing you.

Minny holds the tie breaker. But that is irrelevant to the discussion. A 3 game lead is a 3 game lead, is a 3 game lead.

Never before in the history of ever has anyone attempted to explain this scenario in the way you are trying to portray it.

interesting.. so they have the exact same record and yet Minny goes to the playoffs. But the lead is zero, how can that be. It is almost like the Royals know they have to win 1 more game over the twins thus that 3 game lead is not really 3, now is it. they know if they lose that 3 game lead they will not advance.. So technically the Royals only have a 2 game lead to advance to the playoffs.

I guess you don't hang around people that understands data and logic.. saying a team has a 3 game lead doesn't represent the whole picture. it doesn't define who actually wins the WC berth.. If I say the Royals has only a 2 game lead then we now know if the royals lose 3 games off their lead they don't advance.. if they only lose 2 games off their lead they do. So TECHNICALLY the Royals only have a 2 game lead TO ADVANCE TO THE PLAYOFFS.

Let’s just agree to disagree, and you two focus your energies on your intense hatred of the Mets……. and manifest them being swept by the Brew Crew

I hold no ill will.. just banter in my book.. I think I am focusing on the Dbag personally. They are the Braves only avenue to not having to play the double header. Even if the Braves sweep and the Mets get swept, they would have to play at least one game because the Mets could claim the tie breaker and advance with an even record. (by sweeping the double header)

This is why I don't like not throwing Sale. I get the idea of saving him for the Mets series, but if you don't win the games before that double header then it doesn't matter.. If you throw him anytime after tonight you set yourself up to not see him in the WC round at all. I just don't get it.

No. That is some incredibly dumb logic.

If Minny wins the next 2 games and KC loses the next 2 games, guess what? KC still leads Minny by (drum roll please.........) 1 game. It's almost as if KC has to lose 3 whole in games and Minny has to win 3 whole games. Amazing.

The best you could say is that Minny holds the advantage on a potential tie, so KC needs to stay at least 1 game ahead. But that is not the same as saying KC has "technically" a 2 game lead.

Right now, the Braves have their fate in their hands. If they sweep the Royals, Monday doesn't matter.

That’s not true. That’s only true if the DBacks lose their series.

Sorry you are correct. I typed that out incorrectly. We control our fate by winning out.

If we sweep and AZ loses, Monday does not matter.
