GDT 9/5/24: Braves vs Rockies - Another must win

I know some teams will rest guys that have a spot locked up but the Mets play the Phillies twice, the Brewers, and Braves. Thats not an easy schedule and the Padres and Dbacks dont have an easy schedule either. Its the Braves to lose unless they keep repeating mistakes. I know Merrifield is no world beater but he has that spark we need and he needs to be back tonight for sure if hes already been cleared. Albies is swinging a bat and they say he should return in 2 weeks hopefully so that will be a huge boost. If we can get into the playoffs i like our chances if we get out of the first round bc Riley should be back for the 2nd round. I know he will be coming back rusty but i’ll take a rusty Riley and Albies over the alternative.

If the braves do miss the playoffs, AA's strategy of giving our starters all these extra days of rest should be blasted. He treated the playoffs as a given for a long stretch in the 2nd half, and it obviously wasn't a given

I disagree. The workload management is likely why Sale SS and Lopez still going strong. If AA should be blasted for anything it's the management of the IL and having us play several games shorthanded.

However Snit's in game management has directly cost us at least 3 games in the last month. That doesn't even include suboptimal lineups or things like that. Just grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory.

AA can be blamed for a lot of things but trying to do load management is not one of them.. maybe it wasn't perfect or maybe it lasted a bit too long, but trying to keep folks fresh and healthy is not a fault.

allowing Twit to not load manage the position players is a fault that could be laid at his feet. Not having an adequate bench could be laid at his feet. trading a younger better player for an older player who hates hot weather most definitely can be laid at his feet. Not holding the clubhouse leader responsible for in game decisions that are so blatantly bad can be laid at his feet.

I think AA will do everything in his power to rid himself of the coaches this fall. unfortunately, that might not do much and his love affair with the A's and extensions might be his death knell.

Our offense and all the injured all-stars on it is the reason the Braves might miss the playoffs.

AA continues to use guys that don't give us a chance with this offense. Perhaps he should learn what other teams do, and utilize pen games. Those long delays between starts didn't just cost us by using the AAAA gang, but it made our main guys rusty as hell. Using the IL to skip a couple starts altogether for each guy seems like a much more effective method than all our guys have long stretches between starts

The all stars were missing...

Acuna .716 ops

Riley .783 ops

Albies .717 ops

The all stars we have...

Ozuna (great)

Olson .752 ops

Harris .660 ops

Murphy .661 ops

The offense sucked at full strength. AA's disastrous LF opening day guys have been pathetic. Whit has matched Ozzie's play. Laureano has really improved AA's terrible LF. Soler actually has a better ops than Acuna does this season; definitely not saying he's a better hitter, but he has been this season. The whole offense save ozuna has regressed, and that should be pinned on the players and the staff. No way I'll buy that these guys worked hard in the offseason preparing.

Do you expect Acuna to stay like that all year? Riley had clearly turned it around after a bad start to the year. 909, 850, and 840 OPS the last 3 months before getting hurt.

People are stupid. Can't take that away from them.

Acuna has never posted a sub 120 wRC+ when healthy.

Idk. Did you expect Olson and Murphy to be this bad all season? All I have are his numbers in 222 PA to judge him by. His xwoba and wrc+ were at career lows and his babip was at career level. Which expected stats showed he was about to turn it on other past years. Past years certainly hasn't meant anything for Olson

I have Acunas whole career to show he's a great hitter. 2 months don't mean much. Your fixation on Olson doesn't mean much.

FWIW, I think Acuña would have gotten better. I've also thought that about Olson, Ozzie, Murphy, Riley, Arcia, and Kelenic also though

I think it is fair to say that acuna was having a down year. And to dismiss it is being a homer. Olson, Harris, Murphy are also having career bad years and everyone keeps waiting for them to turn it on. Ozzie was too for that matter. Maybe it is the balls. Maybe the team just didn’t take the off season serious. Maybe it is a fluke. Maybe acuna hurt his knee in spring and he wasn’t right and wasn’t going to be right until he rehabbed it.

But it is unfair to just assume he was going to turn it around when there are at least three examples just on this team of guys not turning it around even though their prior years say they should.

Olson is hitting .230/.311/.500 in the second half with 12 homers in 46 games. He has had down periods before and come back from it. His second half stats are much closer to his norm. He is a .250 hitter.

.856 career ops, so even his better 2nd half is .045 less than his career ops
