GDT April Fool’s Day — Sale and the Island of Misfit Toys

I think Anthopoulos' player acquisition process has been heavily reliant on analytics. You have a legitimate argument when it comes to player usage, but I've run out of fingers to count how many times the Braves have acquired someone with Bowman or O'Brien reporting that someone in player personnel has spouted some arcane measurement to justify the move.

Anthopoulos painted himself into a corner with some of the extensions (I think Enscheff and I are the only posters who pointed out the downside risk to those moves). It's one thing to buy out arbitration years like they did with Harris and Strider, but extending the second contract guys always bore some risk. Maybe it all takes a 180 in a day or two (and we have to remember than Strider and Acuna will be coming back) and Anthopoulos regains his genius status, but this is the team we have unless they want to blow through the next tier of the luxury tax and Anthopoulos is responsible for that.

yeah, I keep hearing AA uses analytics.. but then we don't see it when it counts. He still allows twit to employ terrible lineups.. he still allows weak bench usage. He hasn't gotten through to anyone about pen and high leverage.. 3rd time through isn't even a concept in this org. somehow this is the 3rd year that Arcia is the starting shortstop. analytics would suggest that the starting rotation was a much higher risk than normal to sustain a serious injury and he let Morton and Fried walk with no replacement.. and now he is throwing darts at a poo poo plater of reject relievers..

I wouldn't do anything to try and fix this years team.. that time has passed. I would personally hold on and see how things shake out (sell at deadline if the team is still lifeless) and reload this offseason. I would try to move some of those deals if possible (meth head/Olson) but I don't know if anyone would take those off the teams hands at this point. AA did paint himself into a corner, but this corner is roof of the omni hotel with a 100 foot drop behind him.

If this team flops, so will attendance, and next season won't be some big spending party.

I would go huge this offseason regardless of attendance. the CBA runs out after 2026 and who knows what will be changed or if there will be a lock out for a while. push all in for 2026.

I think AA needed a year like this to humble him. This will show him that his method can fail and fail hard. I'm sure they didn't wanna go over the tax to reset it. With Profar probably regressing hard after this PED suspension I'd go hard after Tucker, Bichette, and Cease in the offseason. Just go full Dodgers on the spending but on actually good players that contribute.

Agreed. Go all in this coming offseason. Start signing guys instead of gutting the farm every time you want somebody.

It's already gutted. In AA's tenure, he's turned an up-and-coming team into a washed up trash heap and a great farm into a barren desert

Atlanta Braves Holdings today announced they purchased a building complex across the interstate from The Battery. Can one of those buildings get a hit with RISP?

brilliant move imo... they are going to tell Twit the team moved there.. he is dumb enough to show up there everyday and the team can finally get the blind monkey to lead the team.
