GDT: Atlanta Braves @ NY Mets, July 25th 2013 - Wood Rises Up To the Occasion

My dad, who's a big Cardinals fan, told me that the Braves would be in fourth place if they played in the Central. I told him that his Cardinals would be in fourth place as well if they had Fredi managing them. Seriously, Fredi would probably have Molina batting 8th. :icon_biggrin:

"Buck & Satin" could be a bad buddy cop movie. Or a couple of pimps. Or Buck Satan.

Reminds me of the Chappelle Hater's Ball sketch—Buck Nasty and Silky Johnson.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go home and put water in Buck Nasty's mama's dish.

I just cannot get over how Fredi has been using our best relievers so much in games we lead big. Then our worst in tight ball games like today, when we could've won more games with opposite approach. He's done it more vs Mets than any team, that's really why we are only .500 against them. If not for the games he gave away, we likely win at least two more games.

I'm also annoyed that we even called up a washed up pitcher like Loe given our better options. Plus I am still bummed over losing Huddy.

Im not as down on fredi as a lot of people here, but i do think the losses of venters and oflaherty has vexed his bullpen use. Im not sure he knows what to do...

We needed this game with the Cardinals next, I won't be surprised if they sweep us. At best I expect us to win one game against them. If you check our line-up, very few hit Wainwright well. The players that did are no longer Braves (Chipper for example). Justin has never had a hit against him.

They just showed that the Mets are about to be 7-7 against us because their bullpen has outpitched ours. But what those stats don't show is that a big reason for that is Fredi using our worst relievers in tight games (tied or within striking distance).

Well guys, look on the bright side, our division sucks so bad we can probably keep alternating wins and losses the rest of the year and still win the division fairly comfortably.

I just don't understand the content for a series split. Why run that line up out there? If you were going to sit Jason, give Constanza the damn start. Why is Reed and Laird in the same line up? Why did you go with our scrub reliever in a close situation but then go to one of our better 1s in the 8th down 3? Why is Justin still in the 3 hole?

losing Venters and EOF has not hurt this team as much as the offense being a huge disappointment. How many times has the RP's let this team down? Granted Loe was horrible today, but look at the box score...4 hits in 8 innings against a rookie starter and mediocre RP. They just can't mount any momentum to allow this team to win a series or win back to back games in over a month. Unfortunately, Wren is 'land-locked' when it comes to hitters so he has to decide if he goes after SP or RP before deadline. Since there are no real front of rotation SP available (unless Phillies make Lee available) I would assume he will go after at least one good LHP RP. Might need to go after a RHP RP as well. And hope (and pray) that the hitters get healthy and get going in a more consistent manner

As long as Wren doesn't mistake it for seeing his shadow.

Another year of Fredi.

I liked our shot at holding on before we lost Huddy, but now I'm doubtful to be honest. I expect us to miss him in the series vs Nats and Philly coming up. He's the type of vet that stops losing streaks too. I cannot say I trust who ever replaces him to do so. Nor do I expect them to pitch as deep into games as well. I also don't trust Wren to trade for a solid starter. He'd probably overpay for a Dempster type again.

Plus with Fredi managing no lead is safe.

got really lucky that time when avilan went down.... imagine he would've been out for multiple months.....been the best relief pitcher on the team
