GDT - August 20, 2018 - Bravos @ Pirates: THE BRYSE IS RIGHT

He should’ve been rung up on the check swing.

In my biased eyes, the check swing was less questionable than the third strike. I don't know exactly what criteria the first base ump uses but, generally, if a hitter brings the bat to the front of the plate, they'll call it a strike. The camera angle I saw looked like Acuña stopped short of that. It's certainly within the realm of possibility that we did catch a break, though.

I've been a fan for quite a while. He's just even done a whole lot better than I even expected. Forgot who it was but I lol to the bright poster who said he wasn't ready for AA when he struggled during his first start

He’s struggled at a few levels for a few starts. Seems like he got torched his first AAA start also. Then he adjusts and dominates. It’s what I like about him....how quickly he adjusts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets hit hard today.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes seven and doesn’t give up a run either though.

That was another solid inning by Wilson. Gave up a couple bloop hits, but so far nothing has been hit particularly hard off of him.

Hands crossed plate, but barrel didn't. Not sure if hands count

There's no definition. Most go off whether the hands break and the bat goes more than parallel to the front of the plate, and in Acuna's case they didn't.

Regardless, no one can say he should have been rung up. I would say most umps would say he didn't offer.

Yup but it was laughable that someone says a pitcher isn't ready after one start

Then he doesn't call a pitch that is even better (but still a ball).

It's play guess the strike zone night I suppose.

One problem that I see with Ozzie right now is his mechanics are a mess. He has really leaky hands and seems to be way out in front on even fastballs. Its hard to tell completely from the camera angle, but usually grounding out to middle infielders too often is a perfect sign of those two problems. I wonder how much Seitzer has talked to Ozzie about it.

Chip: "All of the Braves starting pitchers who have debuted in 2018 have fared exceptionally well."

He must have been on vacation when Allard pitched.
