GDT - August 7th, 2018 - Game 1 of 2 - 1:05 @ Nationals

How you guys expect newcomb to bounce back after 134 pitches?

He got a lot of rest. I expect him to perform as well as a rested Newk is going to perform.

As always, if the control is acceptable, he will be fine.

If not...it's going to be a rough sweep.

That's the deal with a "stuff #4". The "stuff" can lead to 8.2 no-hit innings, but the maddening inconsistency with control ultimately limits him to "#4" production overall.

They’ve won 6 of 7

And are lucky to have done that. Every game against the lowly Mets was a war and we didn't exactly look like world beaters against the Fish. Also we've had a lot of really bad mistakes lately.

This is a flawed team. It has been all season really. We caught lightning in a bottle in the first half but have been very mediocre since the start of July. Considering we weren't supposed to compete, I guess we can consider this year encouraging.

However, the more I watch this team the less hope I have for the playoffs. We've got a lot of games with good teams left and we haven't looked very good, especially against winning teams.

Anyway, the end of the story on Allard is I just wouldn't bring him back this season. I'd send him to Driveline and try to rebuild his velo, then value next year if not a throw in in a trade this offseason.

Yes, the Mets series was ugly on offense, but two of the starters was deGrom and a red hot Wheeler. If their pitching stays healthy, they might be able to play a little spoiler.

Well, as frustrating as it may be, this team has outplayed expectations all year long and has a legit chance to make it to the playoffs; or at least come damn close.

If we don't make it, we'll be disappointed, but it's been a good year regardless.

We scored 4 against Vargas and I felt like we were really lucky to get that. We were largely ineffective against Oswalt. Now today we let Rodriguez go 5 with only 1 run.

It's tempting to just write off the struggles as facing Degrom and Wheeler but it's more than that. The offense isn't hitting well.

Fried seemed devastated that he had to come out. I like the fact that he cared so much.

I’m not big of Allard, but getting thrown into that situation second time to pitch in MLB and never pitching out of the bullpen like ever....it’s hard to be down on him. I don’t think he should have ever been put in that situation. Maybe go Luke Jackson there.

It's apparent at this point, but I'm a huge Fried fan. Dude is nearly everything I like in a pitcher. I hope he continues to pan out because I think he can make a big impact in this league and for our Bravos.

I like Allard's pitching acumen. That's about it. His stuff is a shadow of what it was when he was drafted. He has to add 3 MPH to his fastball or develop some crazy secondary pitch (nasty curve, ridiculous changeup) or he'll have no value. I don't see either thing happening. Just another young career destroyed by injury.

Calling it now... very close game that comes down to a Bryce Harper AB. And of course, we burned venters today

We play one of the most important series of the year and Acuna and Albies will not play together in either games of the double header. UNREAL.

That takes away one of the biggest advantages we have. Ok...I’m done...fire Snit. Not one excuse for this.

If he sucks at least his apologists have the "he's not used to coming out of the BP" excuse teed up for them after they got to use the "it was raining" excuse last time.

You are trolling with the best of them today. Criticizing posters for what you think they will say without even waiting for them to say it.

Want to bet the "he isn't used to coming out of the BP" excuse isn't used if Allard struggles?

Name your stakes

Too bad free went silent after I laid out this bet lol.

I do think it’s a decent excuse. He probably wasn’t even thinking he would get in the game today and didn’t prepare. That didn’t help.

In saying that....I imagine he would have been shelled as a starter also.

I would have much rather seen a guy that’s used to being utilized as a long man. That’s tough for anyone to come into. For any rookie starter that’s really TOUGH.

I’m definitely not on the Allard train either way, and I think I’ve been pretty vocal about him needing to be moved for over a year to two years now. Sad part is...he has already lost a ton of value.
